Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1785 readers
94 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

MODERATORS

I submit for your judgement, my ban from a History Photos, after the mod (a favourite around here) loses his cool and breaks almost all the sub rules and the instance general guidelines.

Arguably he also breached instance rule 1 against ableist conduct and use of slurs as the history of the word moron is quite troubled - something I've disagreed with @PugJesus@piefed.social on before.

https://piefed.social/rules

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moron_(psychology)

For clarity I do not support any of the states identified by the US as rogue states. Discussing motives and outcomes does not equal support.

Rules

  1. Be respectful and inclusive.
  2. No harassment, hate speech, or trolling.
  3. Foster a continuous learning environment.
  4. No genocide or atrocity denialism.
  5. Photos MUST be at LEAST 10 years old, and ideally over 20. We appreciate that we are living through events which will become history, but this is ultimately not a comm for news or current affairs, but events which have occurred some time in the past.

PTB.
I don't know who's in the right history-wise, and I appreciate pugjesus' posts and explanations.
But in this case it feels to me like it was just an interesting argument until he decided to call you a dipshit and a moron (and then ban you). Smh.

This probably isn't the community for it but as I was banned for 'conspiracy theories' I figure its relevant.

The US has been quite open about its involvement in Libya and there are plenty of sources on this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_involvement_in_the_2011_Libyan_Civil_War

https://www.congress.gov/crs_external_products/IF/PDF/IF11556/IF11556.33.pdf

Over a decade after a 2011 uprising and U.S.-backed military intervention that toppled longtime authoritarian leader Muammar al Gadhafi

Congress has conditionally appropriated funding for transition support, stabilization, security assistance, and humanitarian programs for Libya since 2011

The idea it could be a conspiracy theory that the US backed rebels against Gadhafi is beyond ridiculous, it was public, acknlowedged at all levels of the US government and is a matter of factual record that assistance including military and humanitarian spending. These actions were undertaken largely under the umbrella of a NATO intervention.

Stating the fact that this happened isn't condeming or condoning (though ousting Gadhafi was good, the fallout and subsequent rise of ISIS in the region was horrific) it is literally just the recognition of events as they happened.

The start of the revolt was genuine but there is not a single doubt that the US was involved in destroying Libya. France was even more involved, it was france who brought the idea in UN to be involved under pretext of protecting civilians . Still this is a PTB

Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.

Thought you might appreciate this quote from this comm's rules since you're so outspoken about following them.

Right at the top of the post buddy. Going to follow the rules yet?

It is relevant to directly refuting the reason for the ban as stated in the mod log.

Got any more bangers there champ?

My bad, I could have sworn your comment was

about the general topic in which the moderation took place

and not

about the moderation action itself
