So we agree to:

  1. give them $1000 for every man woman and child in the US

  2. pull our military out of the Middle East

  3. let them sponsor terrorism across the region

And in return, they agree to start negotiations

Are you tired of all this winning yet?

Because Iran has never supported terrorism?

Can you all stop fucking treating sides in world conflicts like they are your favorite football teams?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 0 points 33 minutes ago

Doing the Micheal Brown "He was no Angel" bit to justify bombing elementary schools and hospitals.

Woah, woah... schoolgirls are totally justified military targets

America is a terrorist state. Screaming freedom all the time doesn't change the truth.

Does it change anything about the comment you are replying to?

Hangars sitting dripped in oil, crying "Freedom!"

[–] greyscale@lemmy.grey.ooo 48 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

"let them sponsor terrorism"

[–] GripenGal@sh.itjust.works 2 points 37 minutes ago

Both those things are true, this isn't some gotcha

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 3 points 14 hours ago

Well sew that was last week. We haven't been terrorists in ages. Promise.

sponsor terrorism across the region

That seems highly subjective; and given whom America supports, Iran my not seem like the worst sponsor in the region.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 48 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Isreal is the modern terrorist organization, and they are hurting the whole world.

That being said Hamas sucks too.

Yeah, man. You know that kid who threw the rock at his lifelong bully and torturer? ThEy'Re ThE SaMe kInD Of bAd.

[–] VoodooMischief@lemmy.ca 15 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

More like threw rocks at the bully’s little sister while she was at a concert and had nothing to do with the bully’s actions. Nothing wrong with resistance, but targets matter and in this case Hamas chose poorly and lost the optics advantage they could’ve had on the international stage. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Hamas didn't choose poorly per se; they didn't even know about the festival and the other places they attacked did have IDF bases that seemed to be the main targets. Now that doesn't excuse the atrocities committed during October 7th, but save for the hostage taking there's no evidence any of them were planned by Hamas leadership. Their real sin here is allowing these atrocities to happen and not cracking down on them before or after the fact. At the risk of repeating myself, October 7th did include plenty of war crimes, but it was more targeted than people give it credit for. To run with your analogy, it's like going to throwing rocks at the bully and also tossing some at their little sister because she happened to be there.

[–] BrickEater@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Its more like grabbing the little sister because the Bully has your dad, uncle and brother captive in what used to be your basement. So you take her as a bargaining chip up to the treehouse all the while the bully is indiscriminately pelting you with rocks. Hitting you and his own sister multiple times, while actively trying to collapse the treehouse holding you and his sister.

Those are the hostages; I was referring to the other stuff (you know, the rapes and massacres and all that). A lot of what Hamas did on October 7th was pointless and unjustifiable and a lot was legitimate resistance against a colonial oppressor; there's no reason to ignore one part for the other.

Not gonna lie, call me a psychopath, but I have a really REALLY hard time feeling bad for Israelis. And I know its a mixed bag and not everyone there is a racist, xenophobic, imperialist bigot, but yeah I really just don't give a damn.

And you might say,

"blah blah the US is the same, how would you feel if Native Americans started kidnappings people etc."

And my response to that, as an American, would be,

"Good. Took em fucking long enough."

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 3 hours ago

Sure, but even then giving Zionists real facts to point to when they try to discredit the cause only helps them, making unnecessary war crimes actively detrimental. The fight with Israel will be won or lost based on international support (or lack thereof), which is why both sides try so hard to gain it for themselves and deny it to the other side. In a situation like this, parading dead bodies of civilians on video actively harms the Palestinian cause.
