Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

If you don't have a disability or something, yeah; everyone could beat a soulslike if they try.
The hard part with any of them is timing. Once you know the timing for everything, it becomes a breeze. So unless you have a problem seeing the movement or reacting to things, you can get through it eventually.
Its unfortunate that a lot of souls likes lack accessibility settings that could make it much easier for people to map the game to be playable. Celeste is the gold standard for accessibility options and frankly few games can touch it
It is something I think some game designers need to take a step back to see the bigger picture with. Having the controls be setup the way the designer set them up can be part of the design. Like making the controls purposely awkward to build tension, as was done with the original Resident Evil and its tank-like controls. But I don't think it adds more than it takes away, when it's limiting how many players can actually enjoy the game at all.
