This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

I tried joining Piefed instead of Lemmy... Before even making a single comment I was banned from 3 communities for "Lemmy account with same username has been seen to start arguments on the Lemmy equivalent to this community"
Fucking thoughtcriming me
Yeah, I was so excited about piefed when it first came out. But the thoughtcriming and social rating based on people disgreeing with you, took the shine off pretty quick.
Happens on lemmy as well.
Careful their PR team will come here to say why you are wrong on what the code does!
Oh look it’s the tankies coming out to talk shit about PieFed because people are abandoning their shitty transphobe software.
Just a few more donations bro and the devs will release a new feature in a few years! They might even think about allowing a proper blocklist.
Love the only response from you is insults, and ignoring the substance.
Although didn't have you pegged as on the piefed pr department
The substance of you exaggerating a moderation feature to discredit PF?
Oh no it has a little badge next to usernames that only admins and mods can see that shows a user might be problematic due to the majority of their posts being downvoted. Literal 1984.
Yes reading the code, and reasoning from the creator is definitely exaggerating.
So you are cool with that type of rules? Interesting
What type of rules? It’s literally an icon next to a username. I mod on PieFed, I see it occasionally it’s not a big deal.
Piefed communities are creepy. It's a platform based on the concept of those dead duplicate communities trying to boycott the Lemmy devs.
The piefed communities that come across my feed are so curated and empty it's always just a mod fighting with every other comment.
Yeah that's dirty.
You could probably appeal those bans, but just autobanning everyone that reminds you of something bad isn't a very good way to build community.
Those 3 communities are probably just one guy with a precrime banbot, btw
That night be there antibot automation. You can appeal if it wasn't you. It's their current attempt to try to combat some AI bots that have been around on Lemmy.
They're automating assessments of user interactions on Lemmy as an anti-bot measure?
Their design is making it easier to see what the mods/admins think is wrongthink then remove from there. Or if you don't interact how they want. Then there's the poorly written code.
Kinda.
Since Lemmy existed before Piefed, pretty much all the bot accounts were here. So their current system uses a database of flagged Lemmy accounts and if the name matches someone else who joins, then it automatically gets flagged too. I think they also check IP addresses at the moment, though I don't know if they gave up on that or are still experimenting with it.
That just sound like a terrible idea and as they said for the user.
The automated part was the bigger issue, but it sounds like there's probably not much assessment to have automated then.
Oh, for clarification - they're not automating assessment of user interaction, rather of users who join, and afterwards checking that username to a database of flagged users on Lemmy. It's to speed up the sign on process a bit more.
Since it's possible someone else might just happen to pick the same username as that in the database, then it's possible to appeal and mention you're not that person on Lemmy.
But they are? That's part of their mod tools to show those they want to allow.
