It does my head in that the West Coast Eagles are eagles and not swans
Sydney stole their animal
South Melbourne (now Sydney) adopted the Swan as their logo in 1933 after an influx of WA players.

Wow, that's a fun tidbit, thanks for sharing :)
Tbf WA actually has Eagles, and there are big mobs of swans everywhere.
They did?
I think he's talking about how the Black Swam is WA's emblem. I had never thought about it before, I suppose I am happy enough with the Wedge-tailed eagle being the mascot, given the rest of the avian avatars (magpies, hawks, swans) in the league.
The new WA NRL team is going to be the bears though and I think it's a huge opportunity lost when they could be the Quokkas! Given the Quokka's global popularity, they'd have a huge merchandise opportunity from the very first - and possibly a global fanbase.
I see. Thanks. Is the bottom image meant to be a bear or a mean quokka? Defo a missed opportunity.
Haha I love this. When are they hiring you as their marketing manager? They'd be silly not to
Such a missed opportunity. Its so obvious as well, like we have no bears here. Its some call back to an old team that went bust. What does a team name like the 'Bears' have to do with WA?
