There's a school of acting where you're supposed to more-or-less keep a blank face, and let the audience project emotions onto your protagonist. Richard Gere was famous for it. I want to say it's Method Acting, but that's not it.

It doesn't work if the writing doesn't work.

Upon reflection, one of the concept mistakes was slavishly following the original plot.

The embellishments like the happy citizens, Evil Queen's love for cheap plastic jewels, apple pies, etc. just felt unnecessary and tacked on.

Disney already made Maleficent relatively recently in 2014 as a meta take on the original, so where could they go from there?

I think in this case, Godot was miscast.

I understand any actress wanting to expand their range, particularly her wanting to be known anything else other than Wonder Woman. See Leonard Nimoy and his "I'm not Spock" phase.

Sometimes, you just gotta own it tho...

A friend who watched Snow White with me thought she was okay, but I didn't think she sold being EVIL enough.

Re:Zero - I didn't even finish S2 before starting S3. It is kind of hard to watch because each season's predicament seems so hopeless. Just gotta have faith that the writer makes it pay off, and it does!

I was really busy IRL, so the list of shows that I could try out, much less follow, was pretty mimimal, by mine own standards:

Finished:

  • Re Zero - Good as usual. The writer is so good at "How does Subaru get out of this?"
  • Shangri La Frontier - Sunraku's such a great protagonist, and the supporting characters are so good.
  • Bureaucrat to Villainess - I really enjoyed this the whole way through. Wholesome anime of the season.
  • Solo Leveling - Action anime of the season. Some standard plot problems, like waiting until people start dying before he takes action, abandoned love interests, unchecked power creep, etc. but overall enjoyable.
  • Zenshuu - Interesting concept, but it didn't quite work for me. Animator/mangaka meta shows have been done better. For a show that's supposed to be FUBU animators, the sakuga wasn't super great. Supporting characters were annoying or turned out to be useless.

Dropped:

  • Beheneko - Good fanservice but felt shallow
  • Ameku Takao - I liked the idea, but direction needed to be better.
  • Dr. Stone - I'm not having fun with this anymore.

I Think I Missed Out:

  • Apothecary Diaries - I really should watch this.
  • Medalist - Sounds like a good show.
  • Izure Saikyo no Renkinjutsushi - Started 1-2 episodes but got crowded out. I might check out a few more episodes before actually deciding what I think of this.
  • Magic Maker - Again 1-2 eps, then got crowded out.
  • Trillion Game - Crowded out. I have some time invested in this show, so I should finish it...
  • Welcome To Japan Ms. Elf - Some people really enjoyed this.
  • 100 Girlfriends - Sounds like a blast, but romance isn't my bag.

None of this would be a problem if Disney had made a good movie.

But Disney didn't.

Zegler is a talented young actress and singer, has had notable roles already, and will continue to have a great career.

Gal Godot has been a great Wonder Woman.

Both are good, regardless of what they post on social media.

The script, production and whole concept of this movie had far worse problems than Zegler and Godot.

Creepy dwarfs? Cheap looking plastic jewels? Boring script? Bad dance numbers? Bad music?

Were Zegler and Godot responsible for all of those?

Releasing the movie to influencers would NOT have helped the word-of-mouth. You have to make a good movie to begin with for that to work.

Children Of The Stones, 1977 British childrens' horror show. A historian and his young son visit a small village whose residents hold secrets about an ancient stone monument.

Like most 70s British TV, there's no production budget, and entirely dependent on script writing and actors to create atmosphere.

Survivors was a great show! Post-apocalyptic drama at its best. They didn't need makeup to have (human) monsters.

I still remember my favorite character from that show: Bowler.

Video stars an amazing performance by actress and dancer Maddie Ziegler

I have eaten corn beef hash within the last year, so I don't know that it's dying...

Similarly corned beef sandwiches are pretty common in delis around here.

Cream of Wheat, I buy and eat regularly.

Chicken Cacciatore I can make at home.

Lobster Newburg is soooo good, but I hardly eat a sit down restaurant dinner these days.

Brains and Eggs just sounds like a good way to kill yourself with Mad Cow disease.

I hate the way the default Messages app takes up half my phone screen with its fricking name. I know what I'm using for crying out loud.

It's quite possibly Samsung's fault.

I think I'm a pretty generic user and don't need anything too fancy.

There were 2 hiphop groups in the 90s that came out with almost the same song at the same time.

IIRC, one group was from around Atlanta, the other group somewhere in or near the Midwest like Indiana or Chicago.

Again IIRC, they sued each other in court for plagiarism, and the Midwest group was ruled to have been first.

Again IIRC, one of the groups had a number in their name.

I'm thinking that this was some kind of dance craze that was circulating through HBCUs at the time, and these groups just recorded their tracks to reflect the music.

Both songs' refrains were very similar, with the difference of 1 or 2 vowels or letters.

Again IIRC, the refrain was similar to the "Hey... Ho..." refrain in "Hip Hop Hooray" from Naughty By Nature is used there, but I'm almost positive that that was not it.

Does anyone remember what those songs and groups were?
