Do you negotiate your salary or the price of a car? Same thing to me

Israel doesn't waste time calling babies this or that. Israel bombs the hospitals where babies are born.

Given how wide a range your response are in the post, what you call "advertising" is better described as "communication". No?

How much have you used linux before/what is your goal?

[โ€“] wuphysics87@lemmy.ml 1 points 8 months ago

Originally it was because suggested results were a waste of time and I had used linux in grad school. I liked being able to use my computer how I wanted. As I learned more and more the ethics became a strong enough motivator I got rid of gmail and stopped using google maps. I'm 100% degoogled now, and I never looked back. Sometimes I have friends or people at work who want to collaborate using google products. I tell them I take an ethical stance against it. I will never go back.

Microsoft used to have a division for testing windows on various hardware configurations. They stopped doing that when they could just put different versions of windows on people's computers and use telemetry to check the differences. This could be an artifact of that.

I agree with you personal. I meant more that people are irrational and if dad comes out back and the kid is soaked and crying, the kids most likely going to say idk she did this to me for no reason

We all have opinions on how to procedurally get someone started using Linux. To mixed effect. I wonder if we could be more successful if we paid closer attention to the machine between the seat and the keyboard. What mindsets can we instill in people that would increase the likelihood they stick with it? How would we go about instilling said mindsets?

I have my own opinions I will share later. I don't want to direct the conversation.

Through rain, and sleet, and dark of night

I'm speaking of creative works in particular. I'm generally in favor of the media entering the public domain when the artist dies, but when something enters the public decay, shit gets weird. Having Spongebob as IP keeps him on rails for who he is as a character. Change that, Spongebob as a character is changed by the public that could make the original unrecognizable. What's the line when a derivative work becomes it's own IP? What do you think?

Because they thought it was too 'woke' and wanted to burn the books.

FWIW you can download it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Database_download

Edit: Lots of good answers. When I ask the question I mean the main site. We would all have access to it. Hell I downloaded the text yesterday on two computers. I mean could the masses ever be denied access to wikipedia in the only form they are used to?

Unless your goal is to set off car alarms, scare people's pets, and upset veterans who have ptsd. Then, they are amazing. Equally amazing for signalling you are an inconsiderate dick. Other people don't want to see or listen to your display of insecurity and lack of self satisfaction. Want to see the flashy boom boom in the sky? Go to fucking disney world. Otherwise, leave the other 99% of us alone.

People glorify the actions he took, but have no intention of doing anything to improve society. Say what you will about assasinating someone who is objectively an awful person, the folks who spread these memes do little more than that. Spread memes. Want to make the world a better place? It's as easy as pickin up litter in the grocery store parking lot walking in or volunteering in a soup kitchen. Make the world the kind of place you want to live in with small steps rather than (or in addition to) glorify someone who took large ones.

It doesn't have to be on a computer.

On my keyboard, I use left alt as a layer for vim keys outside of vim, caps lock as ctrl, and right alt as escape. I'll combine them so I can move forward and backwards a word or delete/backspace a full word.

What kinds of things do you do?

When examined, or just because it's weird on its own.

Example: Beat a dead horse

  1. You whip a horse to go faster
  2. It dies from being whipped too much
  3. You still want the horse to go faster
  4. You continue to whip it

In a romantic relationship or otherwise. I'm being ghosted over a job, so I ask randos on the internet about what they do. WBY?

Edit: Thanks everyone for the advice I've been trying to follow. It helps having it reinforced. It's just hard for several reasons any of which would make it my top choice.

  1. It's in the city my sister lives in. I haven't lived near my family since I finished high school
  2. My job is inherently transient; I move every 1-2 years. This one gave me some permanency
  3. I've been doing the same thing for the last 10 years. This one gives me additional responsibilities
  4. It's prestigious and would come with higher pay

I'll be working on it, but like I said it's tough. It's almost like the universe gave me the perfect go fuck yourself.

The price of food and other basic commodities will soon rise in many places around the world. What are some commodities that are produced domestically or will remain inexpensive where you live? What do you expect will become more expensive? Please include your country of origin or region of the world in your reply.
