Unless it's a bar on your shoulders, your back is going to be engaged at least a little (and even then a lifting belt is recommended for heavier weights).
But training your core and buying a back support brace is a good idea for anyone.

While some dogs are just assholes out of the gate, the main reason many Chihuahuas and small dogs are assholes is because their owners think their shitty behavior is cute/funny and encourage it.
We have 2 and they're super friendly. They'll only bark at you because they're excited to make new friends.
