“I want my MONEY MEXICO,” a user of the Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters Telegram channel, which is a combination of a series of other hacking group names associated with the Com, posted on Thursday. The message was referencing a claim from the DHS that Mexican cartels have begun offering thousands of dollars for doxing agents. The U.S. government has not provided any evidence for this claim.

404 Media reviewed multiple spreadsheets posted in the group’s Telegram channel. One contained the alleged personal information of 680 DHS officials; another contained data on more than 170 FBI email addresses and their owners; and the third contained the apparent personal information of more than 190 Department of Justice officials.

It would be so super duper disappointing if the docs were publically available for everyone to read. Gosh golly.

who wants to place bets that this will lead to trying to ban Telegram and other (better) encrypted messaging services?

Wasnt it that group chats arent by default and personal can be?

Besides that, who holds the keys? If they are in the posession of telegram itself it's pretty moot, no?

Not sure what’s changed in the meantime, but per the article I linked, group chats aren’t, personal chats can be, but aren’t by default, and are buried in the Ui.

Also they use some non standard crypto for some reason.

Seems to align with my memory. Looks solid enough.

Good enough to me as a notification platform, not good for actual chats.

Personal chats cannot be in a lot of cases. Like on desktop, except for macOS for some stupid fucking reason.

It required a real phone number last time I checked. Looks more like a honeypot to me.

I've searched far and wide and cannot find a place to actually acquire this data.

I'm beginning to think it doesn't actually exist. Prove me wrong, for a friend.

[–] MTZ@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Lots of people say that the entire data dump can be found in a telegram channel that is run by the hacking group. That's just what I hear, but I've heard it quite a bit.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I'm just surprised it hasn't popped up in torrent or usenet form as far as I can tell.

It's a scary day when the cartels are defending our democracy more effectively than the government

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 21 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately that's an unsubstantiated claim from the Trump administration.

Every last Nazi should go to prison when this is over.

[–] Landslide7648@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They should, but that won’t happen. If we’re lucky, there will be some sort of reconciliation process. Most likely a few people will lose their jobs, if even. I don’t have high hopes for a quick recovery of democracy the US, the dismantling has been going on for too long.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

there will be some sort of reconciliation process

Fuck that. A little people's justice goes a long way. And I want a lot of people's justice.

[–] _AutumnMoon_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

prison is not a harsh enough punishment for being a nazi
