I must have missed the part of the old fairy tale where the three little pigs started a business selling pork pâté.

I have collected many examples of suicide food over the years, and the most common theme is the soon-to-be-eaten animal having a good time. My theory is that this is that most people have some element of guilt in the back of their minds about eating animals, and that picturing the animals having a happy life is a way to assuage their guilt.

Yes, I was in a hurry and that last sentence of mine was lacking nuance. Sorry!

What bothers me is the concern trolling about "PETA killing animals". The people leveling this sort of charge are usually disingenuous and don't care about animals at all, but just want to fling mud at PETA. (that is certainly true of those running that domain name)

This is similar to people who bring up how many animals are killed while harvesting grain. This argument usually comes from meat eaters looking to find a "gotcha" hoping to nullify the ethical arguments for veganism.

These are valid topics to debate, but the bad faith arguments are annoying.

The petakillsanimals.com web site is run by an odious outfit which is just a shill for some pretty awful corporations. It is best to assume everything they say is somewhere between misleading and outright lie.

There are valid criticisms of PETA coming from the animal rights side, in particular Gary Francione has written extensively on this. (I am generally in agreement with him... let's hope I didn't just open up a can of worms here)

But the meme is right, if you don't genuinely care about animals, then you can STFU about PETA.

I see this sign every time I am in Oregon as my father lives nearby. This picture is several years old, the sign has since decayed to near illegibility. Perhaps old Boss Hawg met an unfortunate end 'n' ended up part of a HawgBurger.

For the first post, I'll start close to home. This outfit has a sign facing the freeway not far from where I live.

Here is their new logo, which has changed the pig from cooking (his friends and family) to being cooked:

Many years ago I remember someone summing it up as: I don't eat animals for the exact same reason I don't eat people.
