I always take a special look at the album openers when I listen to new records. When I discovered this LP, I really liked this one.

A very nice mix from being mean and using melodies as well.

Good thrash band from Germany who failed to start a great career. When the headed out in the beginning I should say they were better than Kreator/Sodom at that time.

So what - enjoy: https://tidal.com/browse/track/102941394?u

I got the vinyl today. It’s a fuckin masterpiece. Something that dwells between Meshuggah and Pink Floyd. Definitely not thrash metal anymore. Very grown up.

One of my absolute favourite songs: "Scent of Death" by doom legend Solitude Aeturnus.

IMO the best doom metal band of all times what can be credited to 50% to their gifted singer Rob Lowe.

Solitude Aeturnus have only published classy albums and mostly got better every time. To realise at some point that they would not be able to maintain this quality quitting to publish new material. Pity, but I’m sure that even helps in becoming legendary.

Epic doom metal with divine singing, depth and melody en masse.

Boss Keloid - Family the smiling thrush

“Odd” is the word that always comes to my mind when I listen to Boss Keloid. I envision a bunch of woodland gnomes making strange and stubbornly original prog metal. And I mean this very respectfully.

Hard to describe post-something , but very good.

I like Hatekeeper and The Comeback

[–] rumetal@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This motif was my back patch back in the days. 😀

They are still good when live. If anyone likes to see, here is a small glimpse from summer 24 https://share.icloud.com/photos/005z1bHmMNtXjCVUyNlV2ZsAQ

Yeah, it’s a pity. I read that Mille wants to honour his Heavy Metal roots. For me I can say that it just doesn’t work. Especially when it comes to the singalong parts, we are all united and so on.

Kreator’s productions have become fat and bloated. This one is no exception.

How I miss the sharpness and dryness of “Extreme aggression”.

Doom/Sludge with an exceptionally raw voice. The music is really nice, even if it’s not very original.

However the singer makes all the difference. He must have a rain pipe installed in his throat. Or maybe he is the older brother of Panzerfaust’s Goliath.

All in all a really good record to listen to if you like your doom a bit rough.

Consisting of ex-Sodom members plus Assassin’s vocalist and a guitarist from Suicidal Angels this is kind of a supergroup (in underground measures).

Fine thrash mixed with some groove metal. Many, many riffs and excellent drumming. Sometimes you can hear that the material was written for Sodom, however it would have been so different that Angelripper said Njet. Good for us cause we have a good new band.

The title track features Blltz from Overkill.

I have read that Kreator “borrowed” their guitar cables when they went on tour. 😄

Highspeed thrash with a punky fuck-off attitude by another veteran band from Germany.

Darkness let Kreator (then still known as Tormentor) use their rehearsal room, because they had lost theirs. The respective careers went in different directions later on.

Check out this record if you can use some melody in your thrash menu.

The raw power in those days was and is incredible. Thanks for the reminder.

Black Thrash from South West Germany.

Mostly straight in your face and quite groovy. Sometimes more to the thrash metal side, sometimes Primordial like, sometime punky.

All clad in an old school early Black Metal production.

Check out “Learn to love the void” first, then “Exile is imminent” and afterwards “Hellputa” (Sodom would have killed for this one in 1985).

All in all not a 100% thrash band. I hope it fits in this community despite of that.

Well… 32 years is a damned long time. I think the part at 3:10 is typical Thommy Vetterli. The rest is really different to the legacy material. Let’s see when there are more songs to hear. I am pumped anyway, LOL

[–] rumetal@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Just pre-ordered the vinyl.

[–] rumetal@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Let’s hope they can make a comeback as strong as Exhorder did.

Oh my goodness - how long have I been waiting for this. Progressive thrash legends Coroner are back with a new song. The first since 1993.

I hope they will release a proper album.

I saw them live on their last tour with Poltergeist. There were about 20 people and the stage was 10 cm high. IMO one of the most underrated metal bands of all time.

Listen to their album “Grin” and tell me otherwise.

Enjoy

I found them very cool and interesting when they came out with this. They couldn’t nail it to 100% but the approach was very original.

From my hometown local heroes Repent emit Bay Area influenced thrash metal with hardcore style vocals.

Fast and hard, straight forward and no bullshit.

Founded in 1992 they have recorded four albums so far. Vortex of Violence is their best effort IMO.

These guys are kind of hidden champions. It’s a shame they don’t play live so often.

I like this song by Revocation very much indeed. “Nihilistic violence” is a brutal hybrid of death and thrash metal.

Take a good listen at the spectacular tempo change at 2:30. 🤩

P. S. The whole album “Netherheaven” is really worthwhile.
