This is one of the many reasons why the lab ship design makes no sense.

There isn't really a consensus. There are as many "haters" as well as "lovers" of each timeline and ideas. I didn't much care for IW, but I know and respect people who do. For me, a little chaos in the Imperium was sorely needed.

The everything from MT and TNE were definitely disliked. I thought the Hard Times setting was really fantastic.

There are three major dislikes, and all of them came from MegaTraveller and The New Era. The Empress Wave, the Assassination of Strephon, and the Virus. All of these are catastrophic changes in the setting, they rob the players of agency, and remove huge chunks of continuity.

A topic for discussion.

Although I think there are some huge landmines in the road to this product, I also think it could bring a lot of people into the Traveller universe, and that could be very positive. Actually I believe that's the main reason they're doing it.

you might have hit a server that was having an issue.

The way these servers are federated may be the issue. As federation becomes more prevalent this may become more robust.

Have you seen the upcoming Kickstarter for The Serpent for Traveller? It looks interesting, and has some interesting inspirations.

[–] rosswinn@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 months ago

Fair, thanx for your response.

[–] rosswinn@ttrpg.network 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

That's fair. Just curious, do you also disregard publisher forums as well?

[–] rosswinn@ttrpg.network 3 points 2 months ago

I absolutely do, and moderate the Traveller group here as well. I like having multiple sources of news and engagement.

Digg is its own thing. I don't know if they plan on RSS support, but I can ask.

Worked on, or owned?

As someone who has developed RPGs in the past I find that Mongoose Traveller 1e seems more cohesive. Maybe it is the expansion of the setting and additional options, or maybe that there seem to be new systems or mechanics constantly being added. Mongoose 2e seems too unmanageable. Is it just me?

Just an FYI, as part of our migration off of our current host, it's become apparent that we're going to need to migrate our image hosting to object storage.

The change should be rather seamless from the front-end perspective outside of the migration window, but during the migration window, our image hosting capabilities will be offline. I'm not sure how long it will take (the current image hosting data is fairly large) so it could be a bit of a prolonged outage.

Text posts, and commenting should all work, image hosting and thumbnails will be broken. You can still link to external image hosting such as imgur.com, but it won't generate a thumbnail.

I'll update here when it is complete, but as of right now, i would plan for a potential multi-day outage.

There is a new Ship Builder in Traveller Tools at Mongoose. There are some issues, but it's a great start.

One if the issues with Traveller's technology system is the lack of efficiency and progression. As an example, Vacc suits in Traveller rarely get lighter, less expensive, or add additional features. This true of pretty much all components, equipment, and weapons. There is no systematic way to reduce cost, weight, or manufacturing time. There is no benefit to additional capabilities and if there are they are always more expensive.

I do recall in the old days a supplement or article that discussed technological progression of vacc suits, and that may have been DGP. There was even a modular build system for custom vacc suits in CT JTAS.

Should components and equipment get lighter, cost less, or add capabilities. Not just vacc suits as an example, but all technology?

Just one man's opinion, but I thought it would be a neat discussion.

Best regards.

Do you have a favorite 400-800dton bespoke Adventure Class ship?

Mine is the Scout Trader, this is a modified Type R given to small detached scout crews to trade (and gather intelligence) on the periphery. They become especially important after the Fifth Frontier War and into the Hard Times as the Imperium is in desperate need to monitor the area.

On another forum people were asking about everyone's first RPG experience. Now my story involved D&D but only about six or eight weeks later I played the 1977 version of Traveller. I was 11 years old.

My question is, what version brought you into Traveller? Was it little books, or color covers? Was it before the Fifth Frontier War, or during the Virus?

Please share.
