My system is:

Rule number 1 - only local-ish facts. If there's a catastrophe in Vanuatu I should not have to care about it. I can't even find the place on a map.

Rule number 2 - only if the information reaches me. That means no "news" allowed. Block that word. When people you care about, in the places that you care about are discussing an issue that they care about, that's your hint to also care about it.

Rule number 3 - if I won't be consulted on the matter, then I don't need to have an opinion on the matter. It doesn't make you a bad person. Your own guilt won't improve others' (current and past) suffering.

I think it's important to mention that there's a worsening effect overall the more we stay connected to all the crap that happens in the world, which is our own desensitisation to it. I believe we need to stay a little away from it so we don't start to see all this as normal.

Also, of course, the negativity bias is brutal. You'll be dragged into it whether you want it or not, better to practice keeping yourself away from it. You'll be reminded of your privileges soon enough =)

If you don't fix it, it's still broken. So might as well make it a hobby. Buy nice tools and learn cool techniques. That way when something breaks you'll see it as a time investment in a thing that takes your mind out of work and "real" problems.

Nice. At our age it's all about the consistency. Take a look at this guy "K boges" on youtube. He has solid advice on how to keep working out in a way that's sustainable.

Software engineering: Don't script stuff! Seriously, just stop, it's a huge waste of everybody's time. I don't fucking care if you think mygitwrapper.sh is the bomb. I want you to know your git commands by heart or just learn to use the damn history on your terminal.

Scripting is only allowed if it's part of the project's infrastructure. Stop faffing about.

Bloody hell mate, I clicked by mistake and wasn't expecting a foot long dick. You'll put someone's eye out with that thing.

Mate, let's first focus on getting you better. Nevermind how the parents would react, parents aren't there forever and their reach on our lives can only go so far. I know in Asian culture things can get nasty, but at the end of the day there's just you and your sense of self. It gets better as you age and get to know yourself more and work through the issues left by trauma. But we need to get away from the morbidity aspect, that's not good for you.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be your therapist, but there's some relatability in your words, I feel an impulse to help.

I'm not judging, I'm trying to provide a different perspective to your pessimistic view of the world. I think it might help you.

Yes. I can't change the world and I have a life to live.

Indeed I do. Here on Lemmy, for instance, anything with news in the name gets blocked. I follow my local news on my own terms by going to the news pages instead of being fed whatever is popular today. This helps a lot. Logically speaking, "news" must include mostly bad things, otherwise it'd be called "sames", (assuming, as I do, that we live in mostly good times). I'd recommend to everyone, specially people on the younger side, to try to experience life by yourself and connect to people one on one, mass media is a cancer.
