YouTuber Takashii just uploaded a video of street interviews in Japan on the topic of what tourists should/shouldn't do in Japan.
at least one person said that in Japan, foreigners should try to speak Japanese. some people might see a Japanese ~~thread~~ instance as a little piece of Japan. especially since English language education there is not on a high level.
and monolinguals outside the Anglosphere do sometimes complain that their languages are being replaced/invaded by English.
that said, i think fediverse users (if that's where you've been replying) are less xenophobic than general population.
just remember that in Japan if one wants to complain about another's behavior, it's common to go to one's home turf or filter bubble to do so rather than speaking to the offender directly.
I'm not sleeping well. i can't get my environment in order so i can't start anything. i can't clean up because much of the clutter are someone else's things. i can't ask them to clean or get permission to clean because it's too much anxiety.
i understand how phones in Faraday bags is good for privacy.
i don't really see the connection to autism. other than reducing the quantity/frequency of unproductive social interactions and social media interruptions, and general level of stimuli.
i also sense that the meme pic is ironic/sarcastic, but not sure how. at first glance it suggests to me that although life without smartphones /socialmedia is ostensibly more "human" as in face-to-face interactions, that life also has the potential for mob mentality and mass panic induced massacres.

it's slightly less annoying to see wrong/unnecessary subtitles. but it's pretty confusing/tiring when the algorithm interprets sound effects or music (instrumental even) as Hindi or Uzbek or something and i have to turn off subs even if there is no talking.
audio on the other hand 🤬👿👹
even if I watch a video not in either of my 2 fluent languages, i don't ever want to hear any dubbed/ai-gen audio track.
any idea if this is in YouTube's issue tracker?
regardless, in the absence of fix from YouTube side, any clue if this can be improved on the client side?
PS - any responses telling me to just watch peertube instead will be downvoted and user will be blocked. fyi i don't reject watching peertube but my chosen antidote for the corporate streaming disease is 🏴☠️

Sorry if this is not an acceptable topic. I will move/delete it if needed.
Just wondering if anyone knows the status of Briar desktop. I was using it to communicate between my devices when internet (WAN) is down, but the desktop client, both windows and linux, displayed an expiration warning for the past few months. I was trying to be patient and wait for a new version, or at least a "renewed" version, but the expiration date has passed and I've had to move to a different messenger.
I read an issue on the git page mentioning the reason for incorporating an expiration date. But I could not find mention on the internet of a timeline or even whether or not the desktop app would be continuing after expiration.

I also think a federated wiki is a great idea.
I think the way to do that is: instead of having separate realities/universes linked together by search and federation, try to unite those universes into a shared multiverse, to the greatest possible.
In other words
of course, there may be attempts to obfuscate relatedness, astroturfing, brigading, whatnot. I wonder if its possible to visualize voting results for each duplicated/linked article along with the originating instance. I think this would function as a pseudo version of 'community fact-checking'. Maybe a better name would be 'reality-checking' or 'sanity-checking' or whatever.
