I just tried HeliBoard again for a few days. The accuracy and autocorrection is pretty similar to Futo. But FUTO was better with space, by far. In HB, very often when I tried to hit space, it typed B instead. It probably partly a me problem because it does sometimes happen in Futo too, but much less frequently.

The bigger problem with Heliboard was that it mostly breaks my password manager, Proton Pass.

In Futo, when I tap my thumb on an email or password field, I get a popup in the Futo keyboard word suggestion area asking me if I want to use Proton. I do not get that popup in HB and couldn't figure out if there was something that I needed to change in settings. So that made HB much less usable for me.

Switche back to Futo and everything worked fine with Proton Pass.

I use FUTO Keyboard and it has the same issues. I have been using it for over a year, but it has not improved much in that regard. I was recently considering switching to Heliboard but maybe not now.

Seems like a great opportunity for ISP to start charging whatever they want to install their crap. Don't want to pay for the installation and use their router? No internet for you!

It doesn't really matter which is easier to install because only a very small percentage of people are comfortable with installing an OS of any kind. The vast majority of people just keep whatever OS was pre-installed. 99% of the time that's Windows or MacOS.

Hopefully 2026 brings some more mainstream options to buy computers with Linux pre-installed. I think that's unlikely though, other than Steam OS for some handhelds and Valve's new hardware.

It would be great if Lenovo or Dell or others prominently featured Linux options to try to capitalize on all the Microsoft hate. I know they already sell some Ubuntu options but they aren't featured or advertised. I suspect they are afraid of pissing off Microsoft.

I don't know, sorry. I use Pop on my laptop for general computer use and I only game on a Steam Deck.

I've been on alpha since alpha 7. It's great! There have been consistent updates throughout, and any of the minor issues I experienced early in the release have already been fixed.

I switched to Niagara a few years ago when Nova was sold. True game changer once you get used to it (which doesn't take too long). It works great on phone or tablet. And there is still something SO satisfying about watching the alphabet and apps move with your thumb. It's so smooth and the haptic feedback is perfect (running on Pixel 7, GrapheneOS, and a cheap old Samsung tablet A8).
