People in general are savvy enough to know this. At least they used to be.
About a third of people aren't. They're so disengaged they don't bother examining things enough to see through it. They just see both sides accusing each other of the same thing, so in their minds it's awash - the issue no longer matters to them and the guilty party pays no price.
It's a blunt instrument but it works reliably.
They can just declare that the passage of time has stopped, like they did for the national security exemption allowed by for the tariffs.
Also somewhat hopeful in that he says the forces of resistance are building both within the US and abroad. I'm not sure I share him optimism.

In this case Trump doesn't use computers, doesn't know how to use a smartphone, probably doesn't know what an app is or what open source means or what end-to-end encryption means. So basically be has no conceptual basis to even form a passable understanding of what this scandal is about, let alone form a coherent opinion, and he probably lost patience early on when someone tried to explain it to him.
