Many countries including the US use 12 hour time for everything, so it's easier for a lot of people to not have to constantly translate. So it makes sense to be the default in those countries. And yes, I think 24hr should be standard everywhere, but it's not. I also think it's insane not to use SI units, but oh well. (I think we should use decimal time as well, but that's never going to happen because we'd need to redefine so many units.)

I've been told that it's strange, although it seems like an obvious combo to me:

Pan fried potatoes, mushroom, and onion. Served with tomato sauce to dip it in.

I agree, although this seems like an unpopular opinion in this thread.

LLMs are really good at organizing and abstracting information, and it would make a lot of sense for an AGI to incorporate them for that purpose. It's just that there's no actual thought process happening, and in my opinion, "reasoning models" like Deepseek are entirely insufficient and a poor substitute for true reasoning capabilities.

I don't think so, or rather, we don't know yet. LLMs are not the full picture, but they might be part of it. I could envision a future AGI that has something similar to a modern LLM as the "language / visual centers of the brain". To continue that metaphor, the part that's going to be really difficult is the frontal lobe.

edit: Orthogonal to actual reasoning? Sure. But not to "general AI".

Good news, we can actually do all of the above already!

  • add consciousness have kids

  • remove consciousness die

  • alter consciousness do drugs

Well I remember seeing a study that ads actually have a pretty bad return on money on average, so the problem is that selling ads is quite profitable. Platforms drown us in ads because it makes them money, and it doesn't matter if the ads themselves are effective or not.

The US isn't the only country, and I bet people using the fediverse skew heavily toward android in the US anyway.

To me, even numbers are bouba, and odd numbers, especially primes, are kiki.

I'd say 7 is pointy, but not really jagged. 2 is rounded and pebble like, but I'm not sure if I'd call it a circle, more pill shaped.

While it's true that we don't understand consciousness, LLMs don't have the hallmarks of consciousness that humans and other animals do.

Modern LLMs are essentially just guessing the next word in a sentence. There's no continuous experience of the world, and there's no self, no agency.

Don't me wrong, it's fascinating tech, and if we do one day create machine consciousness, it might incorporate parts of our current technology. But right now it's pretty safe to say that LLMs aren't conscious, unless you believe in panpsychism / animism.

Laws vary around the world, but I think at a minimum, you'd need a court ruling that aliens / AIs are people.

Like, it can't be a real person, right? Has anyone tried following the links? I'm curious how they're scamming people. It just seems like anyone getting the same message 5 times won't fall for being catfished, so I don't understand what their strategy is.
