I am on an elementary school's parent advisory committee and we had one built for school notices and fundraisers etc.

It took for ever to get built though, and cost an arm and a leg.

My understanding is that we obligated Japanese & Korean auto makers to open some plants in Canada/NAFTA/USMCA in order to gain access to our market. I don't see why the requirements should be any different for Chinese automakers.

I think the tariffs we applied to BYD were different because China bad and it was done to placate the USA. I don't think we should single out China to placate America (especially if it doesn't work).

I think the defense will be that "they" referred to Biden in 2020. Ie Trump was expecting to not be president in 2026 because he would have already served two terms, but Biden winning in 2020 meant that Trump was able to be president in 2026, after winning in 2024.

No politician should ever be that sloppy with their words though.

It's a wealth tax on wealth that's very difficult to hide.

Previous owners that gave money to Musk can distance themselves from him, while new owners that believe Teslas are good can buy one without giving money to Musk.

I'm in the market for a car and there is an amount of money I would spend for a used Tesla despite the potential for vandalism etc. I don't think there is an amount of money I'd spend on a new one

How do American companies that operate Canadian subsidiaries get their earnings out of the country?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I'm sure many "private conversations" are occurring, we shouldn't discount the possibility (as slight as it may be) that they were serving Canada's legitimate interests and not just their own.

I mean it is possible that conservative Americans would take Conservative MPs more seriously, and they had a unique opportunity to advocate for us....

I mean I wouldn't wager much money on the proposition, but it's possible.

Totally, FPTP is bad.

On further consideration I think the best move for Canada is to explore membership in the EU, which I believe would entail some level of PR and would be more difficult to criticize from a legitimacy stand point, and would be beneficial in terms of reducing our economic dependence on a now notoriously fickle trading partner.

Yeah I agree that FPTP is bad. I wrote to Justin Trudeau to criticize the liberals decision to mothball electoral reform.

But if we change systems while facing annexation from south of the border, and it results in conservative "under performance" (by which I mean the conservative party loses the structural advantage that's baked into the current system) conservatives in Canada and the USA will cry foul and insist we be "liberated".

Our system is pretty different. It is FPTP, and I support reform, but to say that our system is just as bad is untrue and a political mistake at this time.

In fact I think electoral reform is a bad idea until the USA is more stable, I think it would create an opportunity for them to coup us.

Neat, yeah Wikipedia says steam cipher approximate one time pads but can also be completely insecure.

I think it would take one hell of an effort to crack, it would be like 3MB encryption right? Or if they guessed the scheme they could try all mp3s ever torrented XOR'ed in every possible combination.

Idk I think there's something workable there but I only having a casual knowledge

Also I think OP wanted pen and paper so maybe use a book instead digital files.

I'm certainly not an expert.

But could you generate pads from mutually accessible data sources?

Like use hit_me_baby_one_more_time_not_a_virus.mp3 appended with a password, as a seed in a pseudo random number generating algorithm, then do the same thing with another data source, repeat however many times, then XOR the generated numbers together, and use the result as a pad?
