Umm... he really isn't pro-diesel. I think you are misinterpreting the intent of the post. Some fleets are being electrified in some countries but it's a small number in most areas, the demand is still extremely high for deisel. He's not happy about that though.

hey this doesn't have an AI image... why is it being downvoted?

It's not his strongest post, but there are genuine issues with the amount of vehicles running on diesel, even with the speeding up of people realising this is going to be an issue.

It might have helped if more people (and governments) made resiliency choices a little bit more in the past. We're still in for some serious hurt in the near future.

that's fair actually. Someone tell Stephen! AI slop can DIAF.

why does this have so many downvotes? theuaob is pretty astute imo.

I haven't watched the video, but maybe the fact that we have less than 17 years of proven reserves at current usage rates left has something to do with it? It's truly disturbing how few people are energy literate.

This is so interesting. I'm a slow and cautious EV driver with an older 1T Minicab-MiEV which runs light truck tyres. My hoon friends look aghast and would never drive such a dinky car. It weighs less than half a standard ICE ute. But I've been told my tyres need changing after only around 20k-30k km. Minicabs do have tiny tyres and I do more highway than city driving, so that is likely part of the equation, but it could be that there really is something more to this that EVs run through tyres faster, and not just because of weight. Which sucks as particulates in the environment are often from tyre wear 😞

new EVs are definitely overpriced, but secondhand ones, for the brave, are an excellent option. Ask me how I know 😁

Look up vipassana. This is a Buddhist practise and offered in structured meditation retreats around the world, & where choosing not to speak is not only viewed positively, it is required by all participants, and may give you some insight into the human condition. I have always wanted to attend one but life hasn't given me the opportunity to do so yet.

The only change I've made has been to stop buying imported fresh fruit: specifically grapes from the USA. This year berries have remained very cheap this winter due to the warmer weather, so it's been an easy swap.

I'm much more concerned about next year.

as a buyer of not one, not two, but three second hand EVs from Japan, I can confidently say that they are cheaper once they are older, but guess what... batteries are outlasting most projections by a significant amount.

There are indeed buyers for older secondhand EVs. And while new buyers are paying a premium, this is an excellent democratising feature of this new market.

I'm sure they will find ways around this.

And those of us who refused the algos by simply not using the sites that have been at the forefront of developing these weapons are over here, anyway.

Just read this, which resonates so much, and this community seemed the best of my threadiverse subs to share with 😊

Sorry for the youtubes, I recommend Ytdlnis to view:

DIY magnetic induction water heater that uses no fuel, but instead uses free energy from sources like wind or water directly to create endless hot water.

Really impressive and simple concept with so few parts!

Meant to post about this earlier, but I didn't even read about it until 2 days ago after the event started, but it's still on for a couple more days - plus once you join the event you can watch the past talks.

John Birmingham snark at its finest.

what bothers me most is that the concept of degrowth isn't even possible to contemplate to these numpties. This economic model is failing, yes, but the article does not actually propose to consider the deeper reasons. "Economic growth" must be pursued at all costs according to these fucking twats... oh? Really? Why? When we have energy constraints, how the fuck can this even be possible, yanno? They don't even consider the reality of energy descent being inevitable, and that we are now staring it in the face.

I'm so tired of not being allowed to talk about this to 99% of people, too.

This is so sad. I had no idea he had no resources and was suffering so much. He was such an icon in the 80s. I can't believe he has ended up penniless, he deserves much better. Perhaps he became a giant asshole after success but this looks much more like mental illness than just being a dick.
