Living in a place with poorly designed or even nonexistent pedestrian infrastructure and more of these big beastly machines than more sensible vehicles, I can tell you they are a fucking menace. Worst part is that the people driving the death machines pay far less attention to their surroundings than the drivers in the smaller cars. If you let these things take over, you'll regret it.

I don't know how it is in other states, but here in Nebraska, you can get an ID card that's pretty much the same as a DL for identification purposes. No need to fuss about with a driver's test. Your ability to go anywhere is pretty much nonexistent, but that's a completely different discussion.
