If you're into, or don't ming getting into self hosting, I use iSponsorBlockTV. It keeps tabs on all the Chromecast or smart TVs in your house and automatically sends skip commands when you get to in segment ads.

I have Premium so I don't have regular ads, but I belive it can do that as well and if not, pairing it with a traditional DNS blocker like a piehole should do the job.

She doesn't want to be them, this just suits her current interests. Conservatives are opportunists who aren't slowed down by pesky things like firm ideals or good faith arguments. Flip flopping is of no concern to them.

Yup, Valve is still in it for the money of course, but the customer really does come first. I've used their support a few times and they've always been stellar. I will always buy Valve products.

I love Thunder. Have it set up with the small UI, feels like I never left Relay.

How can you be in the society and not be a royal?

I largely agree with you and have always voted thusly, however I think this election is different. There's too much at stake with the US right now to have the Cons in power, so I will vote strategically in my riding this time.

I used to volunteer for Fair Vote, and I should really pick up that torch again.

I wish you all the best. I'm not intimately familiar with Germany's social systems but I assume they're better than most of North America's. See if there is government assistance you can get or what you might qualify for. Maybe you're not there yet, but maybe some is available to you.

Good luck and keep your head up.

I personally would not give up my pets unless things were incredibly dire. Cancelling the insurance sounds like the right move, and if they have to eat cheaper food that's unfortunate but understandable given the situation.

When we get pets we take them under our care and they are a responsibility. I say this not in your position, so I understand it might actually be out of your control, but we're still talking about snacks so you can't be at the point of not being able to afford dry cat food.

Thanks for the link. The basics of that article are eggs are nutritious, and people don't like when prices increase.

This article implies eggs are a litmus test for instability in every day life, but I'd argue the US should already at red alert and eggs are the last of their issues.

Stupid.

I honestly don't understand the focus on eggs. It makes even less sense than toilet paper during COVID.

Look, I get that for some people eggs are a cheap source of protein. But you don't need eggs, and the cheapness also limits the possibility for profeteering.

So you smuggle some eggs across the boarder and sell them for double. How much have you actually made? I don't see the reward outweighing the risk here.

Easy, he won his reelection playing the scrappy Canadian fighter. Now it's time to make deals and reap the rewards.

I have that user tagged previously as a Russian Troll. Just ignore him.

With Chromecasts being discontinued, increase in ads, telemetry, etc I'm wondering if anyone else is going back to old school HTPCs or if they have some other solution to do this in house.

I think the options here are likely:

  1. Rooted streamer (ie Chromecast, firestick)
  2. Android Box
  3. Mini PC

I'm actually most interested in experimenting with #3, a mini PC running KDE Plasma Bigscreen. Most of my self hosted apps can be run in browser windows, and a full desktop (while harder to navigate) is better than the browsers you can get on Android.

What is everyone esle, especially the privacy / de-googled self hosters doing for their media front end?
