Russia might not. Oil prices are crashing which is ruining their only remaining reliable income stream.

Damn. All it took was a 5-4 majority vote to completely destroy the bill of rights and any due process that might have existed. America is now a full blown dictatorship and there is NO way out of this without bloodshed.

One of the gates to getting a patent approved is proving that you are attempting to patent it in a timely manner. You're supposed to file a patent within one year of first public disclosure to prove that you're actively protecting your IP and plan to develop it, and if you don't it's grounds for denial.

Palworld alone has been out over a year now, let alone how long most of the Pokemon stuff Nintendo has been patenting. Nintendo has zero grounds for applying these patents, and the fact that they are able to obtain them just because they have more lawyer money means the patent system is completely pointless and laws don't matter.

I limited the losses in my (relatively small) 401k by rebalancing it about three weeks ago into mostly bonds and a few small cap/international funds... So far I'm only down about 4% instead of the total market's 14%. Still losing, yippee

Oops farmers don't have anyone to run harvest equipment anymore because they're all hiding from ICE.

Tinder is a hellhole intentionally designed to keep people lonely and depressed so they'll pay up for the "gold" features. The gender split is well past 80/20 male/female so good luck with straight matches, and the number of bots they leave up to waste your swipes is incredibly high, so even that ratio is probably worse.

Quake 1 was released in 1996. Hardware T&L didn't even exist, I don't think that's the driver's fault that a 90s game can't launch. Unless you're talking about the remaster.

So, if you have enough money, you can just fire off a shitload of ex-post-facto patents after a competitor releases a prior-art product, sue them, and win using patents that didn't exist when the competitor's product was created????

Might as well just close the whole patent system and leave, there's quite literally no point to obeying it if you can so blatantly steal anything and everything.

You could keep flying any plane, but they would be capped at a 20,000ish feet flight ceiling while in Florida airspace. Which would make traffic a lot worse and the flights significantly more expensive.

My go to back in The Day was just Ubuntu because I was lazy. We're talking the 14.04/16.04 days. Ubuntu was simple and mostly just worked. I now find myself needing to de-spywareify as the coming administration is likely to force Microsoft into tracking "dissidents" so need to get back into weaning myself off the Windows teat.

I recently dualbooted my main desktop with Ubuntu 24.04 and have been... entirely underwhelmed. The whole separation between APT and snap packages doesn't work well together and is really the big problem I have, as a lot of standard deb packages just refuse to install properly now. the UI is hard to use and doesn't make me happy, and it's not been playing nice with my Zen 4 desktop when it comes to ACPI power states (no sleep, doesn't reliably turn the power off when i ask it to turn off, etc). So overall, I am just not terribly interested in using Ubuntu anymore.

What I primarily want is the sort of "mostly just works" like old 16.04 but still gave you the full ability to monkey under the hood- and is also something based on a normal distro that most people write guides for because I am a smoothbrain. Should I just head to using basic plain jane Debian or something?

Dan Osborn has a chance to break Republican control of the senate with an extremely labor-friendly and human rights friendly policy book. He may not be "liberal" liberal but Nebraska is unlikely to ever flip otherwise.

Dan Osborn is a strong pro-labor independent candidate who has a legitimately good chance of flipping Nebraska out of the GQP's shitty hands. He's sure not a super liberal, but he isn't going to roll over for corporate interests or corruption either, and I consider that a massive win. Deb Fischer is wildly unpopular and a whopping 23% of voters are still claiming undecided in polls that are otherwise tied- this election HAS A CHANCE. The battle is far from over.

Please check out Dan Osborn (https://osbornforsenate.com/) and consider donating and volunteering for his campaign. He needs every tiny ounce of support he can get in Nebraska, he has no party backing and no major PAC in his corner (he even actively rejected a large donation from George Soros) while Fischer has millions of dollars amassed from every corporate donor you can think of.
