Although thinking more on it. The Alexa app pretty much does all the stuff the HA system would if your mothers that embedded in the Eco system. The Pine things more of a getting off the system and self hosted.

You are spot on the GoG front though. If he really cared about ownership he would of put it on the storefront and not hid behind the DRM.
I think they released a new reskin of their product line last year in the guise of Monster Hunter which is also similar to Ingress and Go.
