But then they told everyone else they should feel bad for the poorer people, implying we don’t. They are acting really high and mighty for someone who comes off as pretty insufferable.

I have had to make that choice and now that I’m no longer in that situation, I agree with everything he wrote. Now that I’m able to cover my expenses and have some savings, I’m fairly comfortable, and the desire to make more money has faded away. There’s a lot of things I prioritize over more money.

The book they were referring to was written over 30 years ago. Of course they don’t exist anymore at that price, but I think the overall point still stands, if all you can afford is the lowest quality boots, you’ll end up paying more in the long run than if you could afford to buy better quality boots that can be repaired.
