I have the feeling Mariner's was also invention of posterior seasons and not from the beginning.
In my case I was thinking to make my own Lower Decks or TNG to say something.
That cover with the queer characters makes me think of many of them start as hetero or bisexual at first place, like Seven of Nine and Mariner who used to be with a man before having a girlfriend.
It was intentional or a change with the pass of time?
Star Trek Enterprise, the original Star Trek and Discovery are few of the series I didn't watch complete yet.
