Maybe not the race of the person who got shot, but overall? This is ICE after all.

I know, right? How am I supposed to take that argument seriously?
This is not a situation where being technically logically correct matters. Of course we don't AHKSHUALLY know. The world is complex and chaotic. Maybe if Harris got elected and started a reasonable administration the butterfly effect would have led to kim jong un launching all his nukes last month.
We don't get to try both ways. Sometimes we have to estimate probabilities and acknowledge that all choices are flawed and come with numerous risks.
Just look at the news and be honest with yourself.
I think you are completely right, but that doesn't invalidate the point behind the OP even if the specific comparison doesn't fit great.
Having a cozy dark indoor day won't kill you, but it does seem to be good for us to get ample exposure to the natural world.
Yeah, that's another fun aspect of our culture. Jobs that many people actually want due to what they are passionate about lead to abuse.
It's the reason I never seriously considered getting into game development or becoming a teacher.
I am the rare father involved in the PTO (parent-teacher organization) along with my wife at our kid's elementary school. We were handing out basic cheap supplies to the teachers last month as a Christmas thing. We'd interrupt the class to give the teacher a SINGLE roll of paper towels and then a small box of tissues or some glue sticks or whatever, and they were excited and grateful every time!
Hell yes!
I love losing my phone in my own damn house and not worrying about it for hours.
Many times even if I'm listening to music while I do yard work and tend to animals, I'll leave my phone inside. That's one nice thing about wireless earbuds with good range. Keep the screen far away. Even if I'm not in the mood I know that looking at trees and pets will produce better results for this brain.
I've been working on reverse engineering the brain requirements for a while, hence the existence of some of that stuff, lol. Straddling the line between still working the tech job while playing retired goose farmer. (no geese here, but various other types of terrestrial and aquatic critters)
Germanicfest?
If you are a user of any mind altering substances, or have any interest in starting, it might be worth giving the movie or show another try in that state. Assuming your chosen goodies leave you coherent and able to form memories, lol.
And it's not just to put you in a good mood, though that certainly helps. Maybe it's just the spicy neurons in my case, but being high can qualitatively change the experience of how I relate to characters. (not extreme like empathy on / empathy off, sometimes things might just land different)
I remember it well...
The smell of the gunpowder. In the play room.
I don't think so. Serious answer.
You lumped together democrats, liberals, and leftists. If you go look up the whole of humanity's political spectrum, that coalition you mentioned would cover about 2/3 of it, while american conservatives are a little circle off to the right.
I'm an American raised in a conservative catholic family in the 80s. I know that Lemmy feels like some kind of little leftist radicalization forum to somebody used to living in "real-ass non-coastal heartland America." Like, for verification, ain't nobody got time to watch all the games but I was watching the latter part of that Ravens@Steelers game and did you SEE that shit?
But I also love learning about the world. There are SO many people out there doing things SO many different ways, that lots of really helpful and successful things get tried in the real world with real people. Like if you've ever seen one of my posts that mention the bathrooms in Sweden, it's simple and genius.
That doesn't mean we change it tomorrow, it means it might be worth learning from and finding improvements. But that's just one small example.
Big picture, I think I can put the problem two ways:
First is best practices. In past jobs where I was engineering support for manufacturing and operations, in that world terms like "benchmarking" and "continuous improvement" are commonplace. I don't see the US doing that.
Second, on the political spectrum of this place, I notice that the two groups that get shit on the most, tankies and republicans, are basically on opposite ends. I think authoritarians and fascists might just suck.
I've said this about Musk before, and I wonder if Trump is going there too.
Essentially, you are an egomaniacal psychopath with unlimited resources, yet you have come to accept that you cannot have everything your little heart desires. Especially being immortal.
So since you are already one of the most important and noteworthy people on earth, history needs to accurately document the magnitude of your presence. Obviously!
But now is not the time to get all touchy-feely. You know damn well that destruction and chaos are quicker and more efficient ways to make your mark than creation and harmony. It is difficult to make history for curing cancer, and it is way easier to do it by telling somebody else to tell their people to go do some war crimes.
My fellow americans and I look at this concept and tilt our heads to the side like confused puppies.
It's pretty stunning how they talk like terrorists and abusers and people just go with it.
But I guess I know from experience that conservative culture has a lot of "shut up and deal with it" conditioning. And not like "practicing stoicism is good for you" dealing with it. It's more like "know your place, respect your betters, and shut your mouth."
