Art by 黒井ススム on Pixiv. A bit of an older piece (2018) and won some sort of pixiv award for a RWBY illustration contest, but I've not seen it around so I imagine others might not have, either.

Damn. My sympathies, friend. Life dealt you a bad hand and society said "get wrecked" instead of helping you fix it. Hope I didn't offend. 🫂 🫶

I'm sure you just made a typo, but I am chuckling to myself at the thought that you are walking around being blind specifically because it's against the law and not because of any biological problems. Like "fuck the police, I'm throwing away my glasses!"

Lemme (heh) know if you ever figure it out -- I'm very new here and apart from doing the legwork of finding communities to subscribe to I don't know what else there is

I think most of this is spot on, but the hearsay was that the subreddits who did participate in the shutdown were threatened with an ultimatum, which while I don't think is possible to prove either way, hints that it would have happened regardless. Tho I'm usually all-too-ready to don my tinfoil hat when it comes to reddit trying to look appealing to investors; I witnessed a number of hentai/porn subreddits get banned and users actively request to become new mods only to be ignored.

Even if you discount the mods, there's definitely a certain inertia you see in groups like this (like what's going on with Discord right now) -- people don't want to leave in part because they've got their little in-group and don't want to have to go through finding or founding a new group elsewhere. I think it's particularly prevalent with those niche communities that don't ever really break containment; the community would already be small enough without fracturing to the eight winds. I'm liking Lemmy so far but as I am trying to drum up activity in one of those niche communities (RWBY), it's kind of disheartening how little relative traffic there is across the place.

Sourced from DeviantArt this time (tho I didn't find it there if you know what I mean). This is still a relatively new piece so I'm not sure if the artist used to go by that Patreon username or what. Site I found it on lists the artist as schrwby, so ╮ (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ╭

I would go for something like debauchery or degeneration, tho the latter has kinda been completely subsumed by horni culture (tho TBH I like the juxtaposition with "generation" as an genAI term)

Also I can't help but give you a slow clap for that username, my friend ( ಠ_ಠ)ノシ You got me.

Sourced from Pixiv. Kind of a shame there isn't more fanart with a focus on Grimm.

Just so you know, I applied for an account over on literature.cafe so that you could actually see any further comments but my registration is still pending approval (since Tuesday)...

Double-posting b/c I don't think I have the ability to tag you on Lemmy but if you or pelespirit need more CC0 images of animals specifically, check out inaturalist.org. User-submitted wildlife images and you can filter by license including CC0 (public domain) under [more filters]. There are currently 1,892 observations under [Voles, Lemmings, and Muskrats] that are public domain.

You could try 12ft Ladder -- looks like the .io site went down but first result when I searched the web was "5 alternatives that work" from a tech-focused website. I personally wouldn't bother since the OP didn't actually provide a source other than the WSJ's homepage.

Sourced from Pixiv. Also the post truly is titled "China Dress", and from what I've gathered that's how Japan generally refers to qipao/cheongsam dresses (or at least that's the Pixiv tag for it).

I love seeing the girls in alternate outfits, there's not enough of that out there. What do you think?

Ironic since this is a fully SFW server (I like it here, it's the only place I saw a RWBY community, but yea)

It's math like this that convinces me that you can contribute more to the ecosystem by paying even a single dollar to a creator's Patreon (even when Patreon takes 30% off the top) and watching w/ adblock than paying a monthly subscription to YT.

Just finished reading an extremely well-paced fic by Remnant_Writer called The Me I Used to Know.

The summary as written by the author:

A young woman desperate to be normal, seemingly destined to be anything but.

An emissary from another universe, searching for a way to atone for past failures.

The last bastion of reason in a bitter feud, trying to hold her fraying family together.

The strongest warrior on any world, powerless to save that which matters most to her.

Team RWBY has been fractured, and if they and the rest of Remnant are to be saved, Ruby must survive a journey across realities — and learn to understand the bond between herself and another, so powerful in all its forms that it persists across the multiverse.

A canon divergence AU focusing on the relationship between Ruby and Weiss.

Why I'm recommending it:

  • It's just under 60K words, so it's nice and meaty without being bloated
  • Each chapter is a nice bit-sized 15-ish minute read
  • The prose is breezy and comfortable without any typos or odd grammar
  • The pacing of the story is a match for most published fantasy books I've read, including the first and last chapters being very clear prologue and epilogue bookends
  • It delivers its message with subtlety and grace rather than being up-front and over-the-top about it
  • It made me cry

I will note that that last one isn't exactly a high bar for me, but I always give recognition for written works that can bring tears to my eyes.

In all technicality, this is a Whiterose fic, but it is decidedly NOT a romantic fic. In point of fact, Weiss is kind of the main antagonist of the story, even if she is the one who is driving the plot along. The main focus of the fic is about dealing with grief and loss, but again it's not trying to be an angst-fest; it touches on these themes with subtlety and grace rather than pushing it in your face. Check it out if you can. <3

Hot take: visually this looks awful in comparison to the original.

Sourced from Pixiv, using the watermark for the username because otherwise its 灰梅由雪 and my Japanese is NOT good enough to turn that into romaji.

Source is ばくま on Pixiv.

I find it's relatively rare that artists put RWBY characters in anything other than their combat gear or variations of it. It's nice to see pictures of RWBY in just dresses or better yet, various street clothes. Wish it was more common.

Source is 顔芸モアイ on Pixiv who seems to mostly go by Moai across the web. This one was posted just last week.

Source is 顔芸モアイ on Pixiv who seems to go by Moai on most of their accounts across the net. Should have been mentioning these pieces have been posted within this month so they're new.

Source again is 顔芸モアイ on pixiv, and seems most of their accounts across the wired go by Moai. Expect the Blake and Yang parts of this set to be posted soon.

Hopefully I'm doing this right, really new to lemmy so not sure how to properly format posts nor what the etiquette is, but as a new refugee I would like someplace to collect RWBY fanart and discussion so I figured I'd try instigating it myself.
