A quote is never what you end up paying, there's always changes, delays, "unexpected problems", etc. I built a house 2 years ago, if you don't budget for at least 20% above the quote you will have serious problems.
Then you compared the cost of materials with a finished house on a plot of land, I guess the mistake there is quite obvious, no?

Pretty much. If hardware is constant lly going up and consumers put up with it, why not get a slice of the pie? It's not like an OEM buyer will reconsider just because of a few bucks for Windows, if they were going to buy anyway.
There should be more bots that report from reddit to lemmy, especially communities that are not that big like photography or woodworking. It would definitely help having more content even if it's not OG.
