Abrego Garcia hasn’t been charged or convicted of a crime.

So they took him from his family and sent him to a prison camp, admitted their mistake and said oppsie that's too bad.

At the very least, google is scraping your emails for data.

Makes me wonder how many of these kidmappings have happened in red states.

Anyone who doesn't rent or own a home does not pay property tax (indirectly or directly). Thus, they are paying less taxes overall.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, many times. Often it's because they don't understand what it is I'm trying to do. More often than not, they make wild assumptions about what I'm suggesting and then lose their fucking minds instead of asking for clarification. Ultimately it becomes an argument about what they think I'm talking about and I never get an actual answer.

If you're behind $1000 in taxes for a $250000 house doesn't mean the government takes your whole house and you get nothing.

They typically sell it at auction and you get the leftovers.

And that seems fair to you?

I feel like I'm back on reddit again..

I'm just trying to point out that it's stupid to tax some people and not others for "roads, services etc" and then when that select group of people fail to pay, they have their home taken away. Meanwhile the people who are not taxed, still get to use those same things.

i.e. Taxing property is fucking stupid. We should just tax everyone across the board.

But somehow I'm the lunatic when bringing this to light.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 11 hours ago (5 children)

Indeed, you are not understanding. I do not own or rent a home. So again I ask, why are you paying more taxes than me?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 13 hours ago (11 children)

Nobody is disputing the need for taxes or what their purpose is. The issue is that taxing a homestead is effectively a lease, even if not written as such.

It also begs the question, why are you being taxed more than me? We use the same roads, schools and services. Yet assuming you're a homeowner you're paying more for the same shit.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

I guess a dollar amount could just be expected from every single person regardless of circumstance. Would that be better?

Yes, that would make far more sense to me than tying it to something arbitrary like land. Failure to pay should not result in homelessness. Especially after a lifetime to paying for said home.

I've seen enough dead and dismembered babies to know this is all bullshit.

Elon Musk has sold social media site X to his own xAI artificial intelligence company in a $33 billion all-stock deal, the billionaire announced on Friday.

Musk said in a post on X that the move will “unlock immense potential by blending xAI’s advanced AI capability and expertise with X’s massive reach.” He said the deal values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion. Musk, who serves as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX as well as an advisor to President Donald Trump, bought the site then called Twitter for $44 billion in 2022, gutted its staff and changed its policies on hate speech, misinformation and user verification and renamed it X.

He launched xAI a year later.

“xAI and X’s futures are intertwined. Today, we officially take the step to combine the data, models, compute, distribution and talent. This combination will unlock immense potential by blending xAI’s advanced AI capability and expertise with X’s massive reach,” Musk wrote on X. “The combined company will deliver smarter, more meaningful experiences to billions of people while staying true to our core mission of seeking truth and advancing knowledge.”

It's not clear if the move will change anything for X users — xAI already uses data from X user posts to train its artificial intelligence models and paying X users have access to its AI chatbot, Grok.

At least 17 Tesla cars were destroyed after a fire broke out at a dealership on the outskirts of Rome on Monday morning, according to Italian fire officials. No one was at the dealership when the fire broke out and no injuries have been reported.

The fire comes after a string of reports across Italy in recent weeks of Tesla vehicles being vandalized and defaced, with anti-Elon Musk and anti-Donald Trump sentiments written with spray paint.

Another car dealership burned down in northern Rome a week ago, destroying 30 cars, including used Teslas.

Also in Rome, several Teslas in the Garbatella neighborhood were defaced, according to police and social media posts.

Tesla dealerships in Milan have also been targeted by environmental groups in recent weeks.

Reports of Tesla vandalism have also surfaced in France and various parts of the United States, including the Pacific Northwest and the Northeast.

Because the existing workforce keeps getting deported.

Florida has been working for years to crack down on employers that hire undocumented immigrants. But that presented a problem for businesses in the state that are desperate for workers to fill low-wage and often undesirable jobs.

Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state legislature have a potential solution: children.

The state’s legislature on Tuesday advanced a bill that would loosen child labor laws, allowing children as young as 14 years old to work overnight shifts. If the new law is passed, teenagers would be able to work overnight jobs on school days. They are currently prevented from working earlier than 6:30 am or later than 11 pm per state law. The new law, which also includes a number of changes including eliminating working time restrictions on teenagers aged 14 and 15 if they are home-schooled and ending guaranteed meal breaks for 16 and 17 year olds.

The number of child labor violations in Florida has nearly tripled in recent years, according to US Department of Labor statistics.

Canada has frozen all rebate payments for Tesla and banned the electric-vehicle maker from future EV rebate programs, Transport Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Tuesday.

Freeland also directed the transport department to revise eligibility requirements for future iZEV programs to ensure that Tesla vehicles are not eligible as long as the "illegitimate and illegal U.S. tariffs are imposed against Canada."

Tesla filed an extraordinary number of EV rebate claims in the final days of the program in January, with a single Tesla dealership in Quebec City claiming nearly C$20 million in public subsidies by documenting more than 4,000 electric vehicle sales over a single weekend.

Toronto stopped providing financial incentives for Tesla vehicles purchased as taxis or ride shares because of trade tensions with the U.S. earlier this month.
