“Literature” comes from Latin, and it originally meant “the use of letters” or “writing.” But when the word entered the Romance languages that derived from Latin, it took on the additional meaning of “knowledge acquired from reading or studying books.” So we might use this definition to understand “Literature with a Capital L” as writing that gives us knowledge--writing that should be studied.

Knowledge and intellect is legit in the literature definition?

So essentially literature can’t be “gate keeping” it is what it is. It’s just do you want to study it and gain knowledge / intellect - or nah?

This is the power of the algos.

I had two Reddit accounts and one was solely used for gaming. Which started to give me feeds completely different then my more left, progressivy main account.

I would get these heavy metal videos about Mexican rapists that were deported on the one linked with gaming. (A clear conservative take). Showed Canadians as commies / socialist evil staties. Like dudes face - deportation date - what they were convicted of - murder or rape. It was wild.

And some of my liberal social main account demonstrated or showed a shit load of Canadian content that linked them with MAGA. And consistently highlighted their crimes against indigenous people. With tag lines of like “they want to talk about what we do - look at what they do”.

so I’m not even sure if the blue line ticking up is “I hate Canadians” or “they are magats too”

To be clear - am American - hate Americans - hate social media (Lemmy is my last social hope / account left) am team Canada all the way / Europe all the way.

Am a dude on thyroid medications - hormonal impacting drugs and hormone variations are fucking brutal.

I talked with my wife to get off BC and we started using condoms again after my ordeal of getting stable with thyroid meds. I was like why would you take that shit when condoms exist.

This is in a lighter direction to your comments with which I agree. My wife wanted to start a dating app called “Broken Bros” that required the male to go through therapy on the app - before accessing the date swipe left swipe right stuff - And be cleared by the therapist. And having ongoing check ins if things aren’t going well (or based on feedback anonymously provided over x amount of dates)

The rest being “bumble” like. Feel like it would be an interesting take in a capital driving country like we are in.

Favorite so far was the guy who was detained for 12 hours - was a citizen - and had no way to show or prove it because they had taken his wallet on the arrest.

Eventually someone checked the wallet he had and was like “oh shit, guess we won’t be deporting him then”. But they had lined up transport and locations by that point. And were deciding how to manage his possessions.

I will say in multi day hikes I spot every single wild animal, insect, flower etc. though. Probably was our evolutionary advantage that kept our brains around for all those years haha.

For the most part sure. But connection and conversation and intimacy have all improved even in my preferred settings and even my confidence in self of getting things done or remembering things even when on a multi day hike. Which is just tent / walk / water / eat / tent. And no tech.

It’s weirder that I recently was diagnosed as a 35 year old and now see memes everywhere. Knew something was off forever. But was “successful” so disregarded until I couldn’t.
