cool. I'm in the camp that the feature causes more problems than is useful. Entirely hiding posts of another language would not be my choice, it should at least say "there are 5 comments you do not see because of your language preferences".
RoundSparrow
it does show the comments on incognito
That means it is tied to your login, something is set in your preferences so that you aren't seeing content.
Picking "undetermined" isn't the same as having never touched it. There is a steady stream of people who accidentally touch the language settings and say they don't see anything.
People have called out how confusing the whole thing is: https://lemmy.world/post/523012
Sorry I can't be specific on how to click and what works, I just know you aren't the first to get their account where it stops showing routine content.
Without more details, it's hard to know what you are describing. Do you mean comments from other people on posts you make? or your own comments?
I assume you are talking about the main webapp, lemmy-ui, and not a smartphone app or other front-end? The first thing to try is anonymous reading of the same post - are the comments there for incognito mode?
I'ts not uncommon for people on Lemmy to set their languages to something odd and and Lemmy will hide a lot of content.
This year has been dramatic. I've seen a big increase of users with quality content doing deletes in protest of Reddit. And the shift to sites like Lemmy that are not as favored by search engines.
Reddit should have gone the other direction, become a non-profit, eliminate advertising, go back to open sourcing the code like they used to, and run on donations. Cut their staff of people that had anything to do with advertising and trying to market the platform.
I know you are salty about how you are getting treated over at GitHub
No, it isn't about my personal treatment. It's about the cultist attitude you have towards Lemmy and the leaders without any ability to see what they are doing behind the scenes with the code. I know cults and religious faith is how many people enjoy the world.
A 2-line SQL TRIGGER removal takes about minutes to fix. It was crashing the entire site constantly. They sat by and asked for donations of money.
A reminder to move to smaller instances for a better experience
A reminder that this constant advice people blindly parrot to install and flock to smaller instance has now created something like 1000 new servers in 50 days that are poorly run and already going offline as quickly as they went online.
Github Issue 2910 is the kind of PostgreSQL problems that the developers ignored for months and people still defend the developer choices to have the code doing real-time counting of every single comment and post for numbers nobody needs to needs done in real-time.
PostgreSQL is voodoo to this project, they do everything they can to avoid going to !postgresql@lemmy.ml community and asking for help, learning 101 about how to fix their SQL TRIGGER logic like Github Issue 2910 spelled out June 4.
People like short sound bites. People don't resist advertising. Why wasn't every preacher in the USA sharing verse Matthew 6:5 when Trump was holding his Bible up for a photo opportunity?
Reacting to media is not understanding media. They do not demonstrate reading comprehension at all. They should be grossly offended, not chanting like blind sheep.
People all around me in the USA are praising fascism ideas and don't have any self-awareness that they are blindly following media signals. They can't even catch up to 1940's symbolism problems, their education has not prepared them for this media-filled electronic world.
it's what they could agree on at the time. The Great Seal was the master plan to last thousands of years. The Constitutions was made to be rewritten, revised, a rolling release that goes along with The Enlightenment (science). It's a lot of hard work to keep it current and on-course in basic prose true to the era, and that work has largely been forgotten and abandoned.
The Great Seal is written in art symbolism, way beyond the Constitution and laws.
Take your pick: in public schools they don't teach The Great Seal to students, social media ignores it in favor of blind faith in "left vs. right" street gang philosophy, universities don't seem to do it, so-called churches don't read right, TV news doesn't, newspapers don't.
I live in a nation where Donald Trump walks around waving a Bible in his hand and not one (supposedly education) person can say "verse Matthew 6:5". They clearly have no reading comprehension when it comes to any media. They just chase signals of media, blindly.
The verses are numbered, you can say an exact quote in the Bible by line number, and they still can't do it (Trump is there waving The Bible around for a camera, it's right here in the book). Something very wrong with their reading comprehension here.
The Founding Fathers edited and produced their own Bible in the year 1820.
There is nothing magical or supernatural about anything on earth, including the imported Bible form the Levant. It's just a book, and you can teach it correctly. They don't know how to read or interpret ANYTHING (including The Constitution). They think Fox News is factual.
Blame the US media for insisting that liberals are left.
In the USA, I find one of the most troublesome "media" is the Levant double-imported Bible. And the "USA media" who teaches that Bible without any regard for verse "1 John 3:17". They actually think that the Bible is "right" and "extreme capitalism"... and avoid teaching "1 John 3:17".
The same awful media teachers I have mostly encountered in my 50+ years in the USA also seem to think gender matters above all else and can't find verse "1 John 4:20" or "Galatians 3:28" in the media book they claim to follow. I question their ability to interpret all media when I can flip to "1 John 3:17" (2000 years to get that book right) as they praise Fox News as "factual news".
