I wish more projects delved into this amount of detail in regards to donations and financial plans. Thank you for the effort and for using Open Collective.

Fair enough. Do you know if leadership prefers the offer of hardware donations handled a certain way or can I just make an offer here on Lemmy ?

That's good to hear. Are there any specific team members who are working on the device ports or are they in more need of hardware donations at this point ?

Are there any plans to support RISC-V devices in PMOS ?

Normally I use Mate with Plank but on Alpine I couldn't find Plank. Can anybody else recommend a dock replacement that Alpine does have ? Currently I am using XFCE in the mean time as it comes with a dock but I do miss Mate and prefer it.

So I did some further testing and had some luck. Pmbootstrap just didn't like that specific EMMC. I could install to another EMMC, a SD Card, could clone the SD card over to the first EMMC, and could install to my NVME. So no idea what the issue was with the first EMMC but i'm happy regardless as I prefer the NVME anyway.

I plugged in a blank EMMC to my system via the Pine64 EMMC-USB adapter. I ran pmbootstrap and got to the step where I typed

"pmbootstrap install --disk=/dev/sdb --fde".

The error I got was

"ERROR: Command failed (exit code 4): (native) % cryptsetup luksFormat -q --cipher aes-xts-plain64 --iter-time 200 --use-random /dev/installp2"

Any ideas ? I'm using version 3.1 of pmbootstrap and am on an Artix system. Some other info:

Channel: v24.12 (pmaports: v24.12) Device: pine64-rockpro64 (aarch64) UI: mate systemd: no (not supported by pmaports branch)

I also attached a screenshot.

So I received an email from Pine64 on this matter:

"Does to double Ethernet height, currently only acrylic enclosure available. the Rockpro64 Premium Aluminum casing not suitable for Star64 SBC."

Guess no NVME option at the moment as the acrylic case is too short for that.

So there is a happy ending. I called the Customer Accounts Team at Mouser. They couldn't explain why the order was cancelled but sent me an email link to verify the credit card used. After that the order was reinstated and shipped. It arrived less than 12 hours after that. Now to find time to play with my new Unmatched......

I use BTRFS on my Artix system, Ext4 on my Librem 5, Ext4 on my Devuan laptop and Ext4 on my Pinebook Pro. Basically when given the choice in the installer I choose BTRFS but if the installer doesn't let me pick I don't care enough to manually partition. I have had no negative experiences with any file system luckily so I just roll with whatever.

Has anyone here ever purchased anything from Mouser ? I tried to buy a Sifive Unmatched from there and a day later the order was cancelled by their Customer Accounts Team "after further review". I will be calling them for more info but it just struck me as one of the weirdest experiences I have had with an online store.

One of the reasons I prefer GOG is that I don't want to use a client. I prefer to download offline installers and then run my games through Lutris or Heroic Games Launcher.

Can anybody suggest an enclosure for the Star64 SBC ? The only one they list as compatible on the Pine64 store is the acrylic enclosure but that won't work if one wants to use the M.2 PCI-E card which I do. I think the ROCKPro64 Premium Aluminum Casing will fit well enough by looking at how the ports would line up but it would be nice to get more info before ordering.

When dealing with ARM and RISC-V devices one constant I see is that distros or devs will make a specific image for a device. This image usually lacks a few things I am used to. On X86 the norm is to have an installer where I can make many choices such as whether to have full disk encryption, choose which DE I want, choose which device to install to (such as NVME) and choose my filesystem type. Does any distro do this for any RISC-V board ?

I usually use Psensor to monitor temperatures but it's not available on Guix yet. Can anybody recommend an alternative that does work on Guix ?

I tried to update my Pinephone CE using "sudo apk upgrade -a" and received the error

"Not continuing due to stale/unavailable repositories. Use --force-missing-repositories to continue"

I am on 23.12 with Phosh. I remember hearing that the Pinephone may be getting dropped from main to community so I wasn't sure if this was related to that or something different. Is it safe to use the command it suggests ? I figured I would ask before blindly doing it.

If I had a device that I wanted to install Droidian on but it had Ubuntu Touch on it currently would I need to install Android first or will the installer still work ? Specifically asking regarding the Volla 22 and the OnePlus 6T

I had installed Guix with Mate as my DE but a big part of my desktop experience is having Plank as my dock. I don't see it in the package list on the Guix website. Am I mistaken or is Plank not usable on Guix ? Any recomendations for alternatives ?

I would love to use PostmarketOS as my daily driver but my Pinephone CE isn't really giving me the battery life I need to make it happen. I am looking at what phones I can get my hands on in Canada that would be better suited. So far the OnePlus 6T seems to be my best option. I can't get the Shift6mq or the Poco F1 shipped here. Any suggestions if battery life is my main need ? I take my phone off the charger at 11am and don't get home until close to midnight with no way to charge while at work.
