I mean for me too it seems pretty fair that way. I guess they also might find it delicate to make people pay now that most people registered there for free etc

I think so too, but from what I understood, they seem to want this service to stay free and open, i'm kind of surprised there is not more financial help through donations from the community though, I went for donation and the required level was not very high

😁🙌 So happy to be able to contribute actively, the whole instance is such a treat, i feel like a child seeing so many people sharing the same values / intests !

"In a world where remnants of the past remind us of the mistakes of the 21st century, the memory of ancient animals fades. Our best engineers have combined documentation from history with technological innovation to offer you the chance to immerse yourself in a reimagined era, where the hopes of the 23rd century are reflected in every movement of our creatures!"
I've wanted to finish this since forever but oh well.. one day !

Ah nice, thanks for the link ! okay, I understand, thanks for the explanations, i'm still trying to understand the complexity of the fediverse, but it seems so logical now ! Also i have contacted @SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net to help mod the art and aesthetic communities, and we were wondering how adding someone as a mod worked.

Thanks for that excellent post, I have a questions, what's the "alternative f-hub link" to donate exclusively to slrpnk ? Also another one is : when you say technically help those community transition to their own instance, it means that they will no longer be part of slrpnk even though they are solarpunk oriented ? Would that make them less accessible ?

We were talking about the discord exodus affecting the matrix server as you can guess !

For averyone wondering why converser.eu is slow and/or you can't register, I had a conversation with the admin of matrix instance converser.eu, the convo is in french so i'm copying the translation here ! (I did remove my and someone else's answers so you only have their explanations)

"- FYI, I'm the admin of the converser.eu server. I know that right now, the server is a disaster. I'm doing my best. Synapse is a pain to administer and optimize. We have almost 7,000 accounts on the server and that number is still growing. We could greatly improve the situation by switching back to a server with SSD. I had to switch back to HDD because of disk space, which obviously doesn't help performance. But I'm stuck because of budget constraints. However, if you feel like it, you can help: https:// liberapay.com/converser.eu/ . "

"- It's been eight years since I launched the server, paying for successive servers to maintain the service. I've spent hours trying to understand performance issues when they arise, getting everything back up and running. In short, I'm doing my best."

"- Thank you for your support. I admit that I am very, very bad at communicating. And ultimately, when I launched the server eight years ago, I didn't think it would take on such proportions. As for closing registrations, it's complicated. Shutting the door when people need it or want to try it out could clearly discourage them from switching. And the converser.eu server is known for being open and hosted/managed in France. If I suddenly close registrations, I'll have to deal with all the emails asking me “why can't I register?”

Thanks for the post, it was much appreciated, i hope everyone is doing well ! About the no border/no country community rule, I guess some kind of compromise would be to create one community for all countries ? Like people would have a place to post in there language on the matter of solarpunk/nature/techno hippyness in theit country, and maybe sign the title with a country flag and/or the country code, so it's easily recognizable, and that way everyone can feel like its culture has a little place (as it is an english speaking instance) ? It's just an idea, also i've not been here for so long so if it already exists dont mind me ~

Hahaha petition to call ourselves the techno hippies as our official slrpnk user name from now on 🤣🤣🙏

The logo is great !! For the banner I'm wondering.. the banner will kind of give the tone of the community, so i'm wondering what kind of activism are we talking about ? We have some protest type of activism but also some local communal actions/initiatives activism.. if it is all kind of activism it could be cool that the banner implied multiple form of activism ^^ Also if there's any ideas I'm more than willing to draw an illustration for it 🧑🏾‍🎨

Yeah, i do think it would be great ! We all want to see some changes and often ask ourselves how do i do it in practice, I guess it will help a lot of people to have some kind of list growing here or regular posts about it !
