So in other words, just go the piracy route.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Based on the instance you’re on, you should know this statement is completely untrue…

Ignoring everything else I have written and then try to use a magnifying glass on this particular sentence. You seem like a troll trying to bait me, so this will be my last reply to you.

For the majority of people who use PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo, it is true. Most users do not really bother trying to hack their consoles. But you already know that. I will ignore you from now on though.

Yeah, stick to the companies that really care about the consumer like Intel, Gigabyte, and NVIDIA! 🤡

I understand your point but I rather build my own PC, pirate and pay for indie games than buy from Sony, Xbox, or Nintendo. In this life, we got to choose which of the corporations gets our money. At least with a PC, I can choose with which parts I want to build it, how good I want it to be, and how much I want to pay for it or wait it out.

If you know the instance I'm on, you probably know how I get my games, software, and eBooks. I myself can decide whether I want to actually pay for it or not at all. PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo users can’t do that. They are forced to pay hefty prices for their games and then still get locked out of their games (movies, TV shows, etc.) when the company decides to pull everything.

Trying to act all ''clownish'' just makes you look like a really bad debater, though.

The only launcher (if it is?) I will allow is Steam. Other wise just won’t play the game or 🏴‍☠️.

I hope people will just stop playing on PlayStation (or any console for that matter) and go over to PC with Steam (and 🏴‍☠️).

Consoles, the game prices and the practices of these corporations ain’t worth the money, time and effort.

EDIT: Since Timothy user seems to be trying to bait and refuses to actually debate, I have blocked the person. So I’m unable to comment back when someone else is commenting on my own comments towards him. Checking his Mod log, a few scrolls downwards and he got banned a lot for trolling.

Yeah, if you want, would be cool to see if it works. Though, if the Xbox controller works then the PS4 should work too.

I’m not planning to purchase the Steam Machine just yet though, going to wait a few months to see how things go

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

Oops, yeah. I meant the PS5 controller

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

Do normal PS5 controllers work on the Steam Machine?

EDIT: misspelled “PS5”, so had to correct it.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’ll just wait for the PC version and then sail the high seas.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

More and more shitty practices of PlayStation. Seems console corporations are on a roll of making the most imbecile decisions

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 1 week ago

Honestly, I hope more and more people will just go into Piracy. People deserve to actually own what the purchase and if they do not own it after purchase, there’s no reason to spent money on it. Unless it is explicitly written in the policy that it is a rent.

Things like this is why I decided, I don’t want to be an early adopter.

Since Pinterest has been a disaster for me for a long while, I have now decided to keep everything locally through EagleCool software.

Wondering whether there’s a way to have multiple sites/ platforms like Pinterest into a feed and to see all images in there. I have tried through RSS (Reeder, Reeder+ and InoReader) but that did not work out for me.

So kind of hoping someone here has a way to recommend. Would like to get Pinterest and Cosmos into it.

Apologies if this is not the right community post, was not sure which of the tech communities I should be posting.

I’m close to finishing Super Mario Odyssey and was wondering which games are similar to it. Fun to play and no heavy story.

I have played or are currently also busy with;

  • Mario Kart 8 (playing but finished everything).
  • Super Mario Wonder (finished).
  • Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (finished).
  • Mario & Luigi brothership (did not like).
  • Super Mario 3D World (Playing on/off).
  • Breath Of The Wild (Playing).

I understand there’s also Tears of Kingdom but don’t want to play that one just yet. Might gift Switch 2 to a family member and I have heard it is now possible to have more than one save?

ETA: It is on Steam Deck through emulation. So other games outside of Nintendo is possible too.

In advance, I was not sure where to post this; OffMyChest, NoStupidQuestions or here. Decided to do it here because it is mainly a question. However, I thought it do be better explaining it a little as well.

When I was younger, I could not really get the luxuries I wanted. Just like many others, my parents did not have heaps of wealth to spend. I did not have it bad, got a roof above my head, education, food and such. Parents would spend on luxuries if they could. My siblings usually bought the more expensive things (Atari, Nintendo, PS1 and PS2 etc). My parents did purchase PS4 and a decent gaming pc for me back in the day. One time my father told me ‘’if you just show that you are seriously studying and if money allows, I will get you anything in luxury. However, money is the boss’’ (money is the boss as in, only if we got enough money to spent for it and not get into financial issues).

Because of that I have learnt to live kind of frugal in terms of money (for myself). I find it hard to spend money on expensive things. It took months to purchase a great gaming PC and a Steam Deck (loving the heck of it though). However, spending money on my parents (mostly my mother) is no issue. I do it without a thinking, as long as I know it makes them happy.

Now, I always wanted a MacBook since I was a teenager. I can afford to get one, I saved up for it and will not have any financial issues. I budget ever since getting my job, everything is already set (saving up for car stuff, emergency funds for both myself and parents, pension saving and even saved up for new glasses for whenever that’s needed). Yet with all of that, I still feel not comfortable paying a lot for something that’s ‘’not necessary’’ and that’s just a ‘’luxury product’’. I feel like the money, I would spent for the MacBook could better be saved towards either emergency funds or car stuff (car theory exam, the car itself etc).

Now, I’m curious if other people deal (or have dealt) with this and what is this called? How to be more at ease with spending for fun instead of always being on edge.

Note: I checked the rules and it said this is not a support community but that seemed more related to tech-stuff. If it was also meant for this kind of question. Apologies, I will ask in another community.

So, I’m using Reeder Classic on iPhone. However, I can’t use it on my PC and it seems the developer has fully abandoned the Classic version and barely updates his newest ReederPlus app (which misses a lot of features I like).

So I’m searching for a new RSS. I was looking on InoReader but it’s a bit expensive (either €80/yearly or €8,99/monthly) and it seems that many old users are not fond of InoReader’s decision making.

What are you using?

I do not get enjoyment anymore out of being online, not at all. I used to really love being online; Gaming, Reddit, Discord and all that. Especially certain games and Reddit (games due to MMO and Reddit because of fun video’s, niche communities and such).

However, for the past several years I actually do not like being online and even sort of despise it. There’s no fun at all anymore, everything is either AI, ragebait, politics turned into fights and just overall misery around the world (wars, fascism, racism and general hatred).

Even the communities that should be fun end up often enough into the same things as mention previously (such as politics, ragebait and hatred). I have even tried different platforms (such Instagram, Tumblr, BlueSky, Mastodon). Even Lemmy itself ended up with a lot of the same issues Reddit has.

Yet with knowing this, I still end up being online. Reddit, Lemmy and occasionally Instagram. It’s this kind of FOMO thing: ‘’what if there’s news about X thing’’ or ‘’there might be something fun now’’. Not only that, life its self is also not so fun and kind of boring (office work, work from home and some life circumstances) and due to that still end up being online.

This post is kind of three things; a rant, offmychest and a question to the reader.

So I was wondering; do other people have a similar feeling about the internet not being so fun anymore as it used to be?

So I wanted to get Switch 2 for my mom on Black Friday. She loves Mario, Yoshi and especially Zelda games.

Month ago, I bought the Steam Deck OLED and put pirated games on it including switch 1, WiiU and PC games. She now mentions she wants the Steam Deck too.

Problems is, she’s kind of not so technical. She gets stressed when things go wrong and has no idea what to do and waits for me. So which of the two would you purchase knowing this?

Note; I’ll be the one doing everything for her. Putting games, emulation, updating and problem solving if things go south.

Money isn’t the issue, just don’t know which to get.

P.S: was not sure whether piracy is allowed in this community. Sorry in advance if it is not.

I recently got the Deck and installed everything, it went great. However, I apparently made the mistake of updating SteamOS before Decky got an update.

Now I can’t access certain settings and it will give me some error and have to restart.

Do I just have to wait until Decky gets an update or.. having to reinstall?

EDIT: for anyone wondering, it was CheatDeck that kept crashing DeckyLoader. Manually update the plugin and everything will work fine again.

Title basically. Which games did you not like on PlayStation, Xbox or PC but once you got a handheld device you really liked it?

I currently have the 24G2 which is 24 inch and 1080P. It was great but it unfortunately kind of died. White lines, lagging with tougher games and such. So I was researching for a good gaming (and productivity) monitor and found the DELL G2724D. The DELL looked gorgeous compared to the old 24G2. Unfortunately though, insane amount of glow – to the point I just returned it and asked money back.

Now I’m kind of uncertain which monitor to get, I read reviews and all reviews on IPS panels have a lot of complains about the glow. I then researched about OLED, Q-OLED and kind of fell in love. Was ready to purchase one until, I was not. I found out it’s not a good match for productivity usage due to burn-in issue (Excel and Word). So kind of stuck now.

I was thinking about the ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS or LG UltraGear 27GR83. But I have bad experience with the ASUS before (bought it and would not turn on, might be just bad luck?) and I read different opinions on the UltraGear one. I’m still on the fence for an OLED/Q-OLED but don’t want to purchase another monitor after 1-2 years of gaming and office work. Got told about Mini-LED but they seem not really available in my country.

Any recommendation, tips and such would be really appreciated!

Note: There are many communities about gaming, so was not sure in whcih to post. This one seemed to fit the most since the others were mostly posts with news articles regard gaming and technology.

I recently got a job after finishing university, all is good. However, after 5 full days of being behind desk job, I feel a bit exhausted of being behind desk.

Thus my desire to game on PC has soured immensely. Despite having a huge backlog and actually want to finish games.

I’m debating to purchase a Steam Deck OLED in the hope, I can actually play some decent games on there without getting fatigue of desk/ screens but that’s a big investment (€670-700).

So I was wondering; how do the adults of Lemmy with 5 full days of work still get the time and desire to play their games?

I’ve been heavily debating between Steam Deck OLED and Switch OLED. My initial thought was getting a Switch OLED, let someone mod it and then download games on it (I don’t care about Nintendo’s Online).

Then I got told it might be better to get Steam Deck OLED and use emulation on it for switch games.

Now I’ve been a bit of researching on both and it seems that Steam Deck runs Linux and that the emulation isn’t really as good as it is on the PC. I don’t have any knowledge on Linux either, plus most of my games are pirated (thus Steam Library isn’t really a thing for me).

Getting the Switch OLED modded going to cost me about €150 but then I’ve been reading that the games are mostly 30FPS locked and that using cheats and/ or mods is a bit of a hassle (similar thing with getting games on it through piracy).

Price wise; Steam Deck OLED going to cost me at least €680 while Switch OLED will cost me €350 (and when Switch 2 comes it might be on sale).

I was wondering what the opinions are on Piracy community here. Which one do you recommend out of the two and why, how true are the things of what I’ve been told and read?

Note; Yes, I would like to get the Switch 2 but since it’ll take a while before it can get hacked/ modded - I don’t want to get it. I refuse to pay €60-70 for each game while they’re like 7 years old.
