I wouldn't even mind so much if it wasn't too often the case that these same people also complain about environmental issues and capitalism.

You're very directly contributing to the increasing waste problem in the world and giving money to megacorps (think plastic production in particular). If you absolutely must do this, find products made of natural materials, produced by real people. Yes, it'll cost more. Yes, that's the real price of your obsession.
