It's very different the way we do it. Homestead farming that takes advantage of seasonal windows instead of heating and cooling the birds is much easier on the environment. If everyone got their chickens and even their other meats from small, local farmers who practice traditional farming methods we would ask be a lot better off

Thanks. I don't enjoy harvesting and processing chickens but it's a necessary part of homestead farming

The hose with the nozzle is an absolute must. This one is permanently attached to the plucker.

We need the ability to tag users on Lemmy so that when we figure out that someone is a tankie or an anti-Canadian propagandist we can tag them so that the next time we see them comment we know they are a bad faith actor and can respond appropriately (and by appropriately I mean not wasting our time trying to have a good faith discussion.)

EDIT:

NegativeYoda said that Sync for Lemmy had the functionality I was looking for so I checked it out.

It does.

I was able to (temporarily) highlight NY in red like a banned user and tag him as a tankie. This week makes my lemmy experience much less frustrating. I've ashtray done the same (for real) to several obvious bad actors so I don't get drawn into a discussion with someone who has no intention of participating in good faith.

Can you point to your right to fly on an airplane in the Charter? I'll wait...

Here is Section 6 to help you out.

You have no right to fly on an airplane or to ride on a train or a boat. You could have driven or walked to the border and left Canada if the US would take you. It wouldn't. You could have driven to the coast, bought a boat, and sailed to any country that you could reach by sea if they would take you. They wouldn't. You always had the right to leave Canada, you just didn't have the ability to leave Canada as a consequence of your choices.

The provincial superior courts and the Supreme Court have long held and being vaccinated can be a requirement of employment. The people who lost their jobs did so because they did not meet their conditions of employment. Their choice.

You have the right under Section 6 of the Charter to cross provincial borders without restriction, to live anywhere in the country you choose to, and to leave Canada and return to Canada.

You could have walked to the border and left Canada if the US would take you (it wouldn't nor would any other country). If you were outside of Canada you could have walked to to the border and entered Canada but you would probably have been required to quantine for a couple of weeks. Your rights were never in any danger you just don't understand what they are.

You would make a very bad Conservative.

... has made the fediverse an unsafe space for our queer, disabled, neurodivergent, non-western, and other marginalized comrades on this forum ...

It's like they think this is a shield or something. They spew this bullshit and they think it will stop people from criticizing them because they are so noble. We see through the bullshit. We know what they are.

I hope the admins on those raided instances are more effective than the admins on hexbear were.

We have 16 turkeys on the go this year. They are a mix of Bronze Orlopps and Mini White's. The largest of our Bronze birds finished at over 20 Kg on the hoof last year. We ordered a turkeys a month later this spring than last year.

My wife loves toads in her garden because they eat things that eat her plants. She has a love hate relationship with snakes. On the one hand they eat rodents that would eat her ~~pants~~ plants. On the other they are snakes and they eat her toad friends. I nearly stepped on this one. I took a couple of pictures and placed it safely in one of the gardens.

The two eggs on the left are definitely twins. The little blue one in the middle is a fart. The others are just...unusual.

My hand for scale.

We often get asked what we think of beginners first soldering projects then offer suggestions how to improve their technique, and often, how to rescue their project.

In this video I've done my best to do a bad job of soldering header strips onto a QFP32 to DIP32 adapter board. There are some cold joints, some dry points, some blobs, a solder bridge, and some nice, corroded peaks.

How do you fix this so that it looks like you're experienced and know what you're doing?

Liquid flux to the rescue (and clean, good quality solder and a hot soldering iron and a good drag soldering technique.)

If you try this technique please come back here and tell us how it worked out.

I made a new video about why I love liquid flux and how much of a difference liquid flux can make to your soldering.

In this video I created a large blob of solder. I used the MG 4884-227G solder that I always use but once I had the solder down I cleaned away all of the flux then reheated the solder to cause it to oxidize. The now dry, oxidized solder is unruly and uncooperative. It blobs up and forms peaks and is just generally nasty.

Then, I bring some of my Kester 186 liquid flux to the party and the solder is reborn.

I just go to Ebay, type in Kester 186, and guy a bottle. 100ml of the stuff will last you for years unless you're doing a LOT of soldering.

I've posted videos of myself soldering a SOIC8, a QFP32, and header strips. Is there anything else that anyone wants to see? Want to see me solder a QFP with a chisel tip instead of a GW tip? How I solder 0805 SMDs with a regular soldering iron? Want to see me reflow bad solder joints using a regular soldering iron and liquid flux?

Post your suggestions here and I will see what I can do...or maybe someone else will make a video or how to photo essay and post it to the community.

In this video I solder two 16-pin header strips onto a QFP32 to DIP32 adapter board.

In this video I solder an ATMEGA328PB in a 32-pin QFP with 0.8mm pin pitch.

A video of me opening the chicken door and letting the flock out this morning. The most senior hens come out first. The bulk of the flock starts to trickle out until the Big Guy comes out then the hens pour out. No. 2 comes out with his girls toward the end of the video. The youngest hens hesitate in the door and No. 3 never makes it out in this video. He always sneaks out once everyone else is out and gathers up his small group of young hens.

The wood, fence, and plastic sheet structure you see here is an aluminum awning with wood walls we use to give the birds outdoor space sheltered from rain and show. It doubles the floor space of the main house.

They have a large, outdoor yard with a thick layer of wood chips for them to dig in and a 5' chain link fence. The fence keeps them out of the gardens and conflict with my wife and protects them from daytime predators. It also meets out obligations under the biosecurity regulations during the time of the bird flu outbreak.

These are working birds, livestock, not pets.

I picked about 500 ml (2 c) this morning. My wife is away for the next three weeks so I'm going to try my hand at making and canning black raspberry jam.

Our property is covered with wild raspberry, will black raspberry, and wild blackberry cane. I picked these this morning. I got about 500 ml (2 c) of berries. I've tinned them and will freeze them until I can pick more over the next few days. Then...I'll make black raspberry jam!

Maybe.

I don't know.

My wife normally makes jam but she's away for the weeks. Maybe I'll give it a go.
