That still leaves 44% that are fine with it (or don't care either way - which may actually be worse because they're automatons)

Ummm... You should see it as another country and foreign isn't a bad word. You can be neighbours and friends but you are not the same.
Much like Australians and Kiwis aren't the same. Cousins, yes. Besties, yes. But not the same. And it's disrespectful to think you are. Both have their own identities and that's a good thing.
Use that anger towards your parents in a constructive manner by putting some cash aside, making a plan, getting as far away from them as possible and cutting them out of your life permanently. Maybe they'll get the message that they reap what they sow.

I thought Spalexma was a small coffee table from IKEA?
I'm fairly new to Lemmy and started an account when all the api's went down (because the reddit app suck) but ended up back there when I got one of them to work (at cost).
Until I got banned for "hate speech" by a random mod because they didn't know the lyrics to Fairytale of New York and appeals go nowhere and then I commented on something on a different user account and got perma-banned for ban-evasion. All dumb.
So now I'm back on lemmy permanently, trying to find as many communities as I had in my reddit subscriptions (I had a lot), and bringing my daily engagement here. Would be good if numbers went up, but also, there's a lot of idiots on Reddit too. The Fediverse needs better SEO to drive engagement. I haven't once seen a solution to a problem (e.g. IT, tech or DIY) that links to a fedi page.
Whilst I agree in some senses, I also question their use. It doesn't really matter until there's an election and even then, they seem to be often wrong as people don't vote logically and often against their interests.
These kinds of polls are more for people to say "phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like ICE". It's a peace-of-mind poll which achieves nothing of actual substance.
Hah, hey look if it helps some people than yes, it's fine as long as it's not affecting non-believers rights to do what they want too. It's no more wrong than any other (as far fetched as it may be but that's for the follower to decide). Edit: I also said somewhere that life is a series of grey areas too - everything is a spectrum
Those who benefit overtly financially from taking advantage of people in a weakened state are...morally destitute imo. Look, everyone needs a job and deserves to be paid a fair wage for the work they perform but if that job is ripping people off, that's where I draw the line. Price gouging is the issue more than the job itself and also tax-exempt status of many of these organisations. But now we're broaching into other realms..
And you clearly didn't watch the link where that was discussed too.
Voyager is a very different feeling show but still 24 century based. I think it's got better with age - but also, when compared to most of the modern shows, it is more political and follows the usual concepts of a Trek show. Not the action focused stuff it is now (sadly)
