Let's not defederate from every corporate player. Some of them can probably respect reasonable rules of civility.

But fuck Meta. We already know how this plays out.

We know there's a huge wave of hatred and misinformation incoming. We've seen it on their other platforms.

Yeah. I'll switch to an instance that is defederated from Threads, if mine doesn't.

I left Meta's other properties to avoid state sponsored hate speech. I won't use a platform that gives hate speech a platform.

I don't need to wait to know if Meta will do that. I already know.

Yep. And I'm saying that when he gets better at it, he will call them, ask them to grab lunch, and openly say at the start of lunch "I'm buying because there's this thing I might want to hire you for, and I want to talk about it during lunch".

I've head-hunted people over the course of five years, myself. But they knew it, because I bought them lunch at least once per year to talk about how I'm a fan of their work.

This dude is likely to be disappointed because while he's been thinking about job fit for 5 years, his ideal candidate hasn't thought about him at all.

"... And the person doesn't even know..." This dude is bad at this.

Y'all, if you work in my field and I buy you lunch, it's because I'm trying to hire you.

But you won't have to wonder. I'll start the conversation with something subtle, like "I'm buying today because I'm trying to hire you."

It...uh...works. Really well. Stay tuned for more insightful tips, I guess.

I've enjoyed the whole series, and this piece is particularly cool.

If you get lucky enough to get the delivery driver who just signs that shit with a scribble for you, treasure them.

I predict that, within the year, AI will be doing 100% of the development work that isn't total and utter bullshit pain-in-the-ass complexity, layered on obfuscations, composed of needlessly complex bullshit.

That's right, within a year, AI will be doing .001% of programming tasks.

Based on my experience with venture capital, I'm not convinced venture capital has ever produced anything worthwhile.

"Then you are truly lost."

Alright, I'm gonna ask: This is a joke cable right?

Every time I see something I'm absolutely sure is a joke cable, somebody links me to a piece of real hardware that actually needs that monstrosity of a cable.

But this time, I am 99% sure... Nothing actually could possibly have any use for this cable....right?

I would be more sure if one end wasn't a network cable end. Networking people have some deeply weird cables...

That's right.

But only because "Vim vs Emacs" is a technically a religious holy war.

Regarding Twitter: yes.

As a tech person outside Twitter, looking in: Twitter is metaphorically a huge airliner with one remaining engine, and that engine is pouring smoke.

The clown who caused the first four engines to fail has stepped out of the pilot's seat, but still has the ability to fire the new pilot, and still has strong convictions on how to fly a plane.

That plane might land safely. But in the tech community, those of us fortunate not to be affected are watching with popcorn, because we expect a spectacular crash.

If anyone reading this is still relying on Twitter - uh, my advice is to start a Mastodon account. Or Myspace or something.

So we're at 8 users per month and 2 total posts. I've joined other introvert communities with less committed introverts.

I'm kind of joking, but also kind of just sincerely think it's pretty great. And I feel like the 7 of you will understand and appreciate that.

I've grown fond of not talking with all of you daily. I'll go back to leaving you all alone now.
