From what I remember, it's much more difficult to accidentally leak memory in Rust. Combined with the drop-in compatibility with C and the somewhat more intuitive (imo) syntax, I can see its popularity as unsurprising.

I think the biggest thing is that there aren't really that many reasons not to use Rust.

Well one of those options affected my ability to connect to my monitor. The issue was not resolved though, and I don't feel like clearing my cmos again to see which setting exactly caused the monitor issue.

None of the settings have worked, but I did find 2 interesting settings hanging out in bios.

Would either changing the South Bridge speed or turning on the Compatibility Support Module (CSM) do anything?

I took a short look, but all the slots were on auto. My options were all pcie gen 1, 2, 3, or 4. My motherboard is an ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus Wifi, and I'm not really sure if the 2 M.2 slots eat my 2 PCIE x1 slots or not.

6.13.1-arch1-1 for x86_64

The firmware package is the upd72020x-fw (AUR only) package which is required by the mkinitcpio-firmware package. I have tried reinstalling both packages using both pacman and paru in case one gave extra errors.

Should be the most recent given that I run a recently updated Arch installation.

I recently got a FebSmart model FS-U304C-Pro. Supposedly, it's based off of the RENESAS UPD720201 host controller, which uses the xhci-pci-renesas firmware module. The manual says toward should work out of the box with "most" Linux kernels.

Unfortunately, when I tried to install the card into my system, it did not function. The card gets registered by lspci, and the kernel module shows up underneath it. The issue is that the usbs do not communicate through the card.

I tried looking at dmesg and I found what might be my issue:

xhci-pci-renesas 000:0*:00.0: Download to external ROM TO:0

xhci-pci-renesas 000:0*:00.0: Timeout for Set DATAX step: 2

xhci-pci-renesas 000:0*:00.0: Firmware Download Step 2 failed at position 8 bytes with error (-110).

xhci-pci-renesas 000:0*:00.0: firmware failed to download (-110).

xhci-pci-renesas 000:0*:00.0: probe with driver xhci-pci-renesas failed with error -110

I have tried:

  • reinstalling my firmware modules
  • updating my system
  • moving the card to my other x1 slot
  • (edit) changing the speed my pcie slots are negotiating

Is there any way I can solve this issue locally before I either send this to issue to a bug tracker or send this card back? Also, I use Arch btw.

My Arch system stays on until a firmware package needs an update. Then i cry and scream bc it's only been a month since the last one. Also I just updated a bunch of those, so my system has not been on long.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

My issue is that I can never remember "a couple more commands" for the life of me. And I use Arch BTW, so the likelihood of me needing those is a bit higher than usual.

He can be an asshole, but I believe finding bugs is part of his job.

Would you rather have him find them and complain to a community who might know what they could be, or someone else who will just complain and buy a MacBook instead?

It's definitely great for the mainstream. Think of Linus Sebastian who has somehow broken every OS except for SteamOS.

It's not great for me who uses Arch Linux btw with the expectation that if the system doesn't break on its own, then I will break it myself.

Some of the stuff I would do if my system was held together by more than literally just hopes and dreams.

Shit you might be right. I might just be extremely stupid.

Ignore everything after this. I was stupid and did not notice my brush strength was zero.

I've been working on a rig for a model, and I've gotten to the weight painting stage. Given that I'm relatively new to rigging, I've had to restart the process a few times. My most recent weight painting endevour is the farthest I've gotten, but the tools suddenly stopped working.

What can cause a properly parented and posable model and rig to no longer accept weight changes?

I've tried selecting all the vertices. The vertex groups are unlocked. Accumulation has been turned on and off several times. Subdivision is off.

[Update 1]

So blur, average and smear work, but the main paint brush simply refuses.

The new link should be a .mkv file in Google Drive

  1. If I put 2 8 ohm woofers in parallel, can I run them with a 4 ohm crossover and tweeter?

  2. Is it a good idea to to use a bunch of amps instead of a single receiver for surround sound? Good analogue receivers are expensive and I don't have enough speakers to fill all the channels yet.

Anybody have tips for planning linear/dungeon maps? I'm currently trying to create a metroidvania map and so far, I've done a rough map of my start and my hazard areas. I'm mainly concerned with how to guide players through the map with minimal ui aid, but any help is great!

About a year ago I aquired a pair of these speakers and a diy sub for free. According to a few searches, they are supposed to be paired with a cd receiver. Does the cd receiver matter if I already have a home theater receiver? Are these any good for music and home theater?
