I'm not trying to sell it. It is what it is. I'm just providing information about Friendica for those interested. I know I was always curious about it.
Jerry
Nope. Locked inside a VPC with only one VPS allowed to communicate with it.
I'm glad this got sorted. I know Jeena. I was stunned and confused to hear he was banned for spam. That itself sounds like satire.
That's just a technicality. I don't know the rule numbers. Whether it's 1 or 2, the comment deserved flushing.
I'm not a moderator of selfhosted. But, I do have access to your post.
Your post was low quality and uninformed and didn't provide anything helpful. It was snarky and whiny. It was meant to complain, not help. It was, frankly, just noise. The moderator was just cleaning up the community for everyone's comfort.
As a community member, I would be happy to not have to have read your comment. This is why, I believe, your comment got chucked. The moderator was doing their job.
Here's an excerpt that shows the message's tone and quality:
"That RFC only suggests that some people MAY implement it as such, which yeah, sucks, because the RFC if it did it's job right should forbid it altogether and lobby the government to shoot anyone who utters anything that suggests such delirium on sight, along with the rest of avahi/bonjour and other garbage ideas like IPv6 or not being behind NAT as well."
I'm an Admin for 4 different public Fediverse instances, and I've banned fewer than 5 people for trolling in over 2 years.
I agree that you were trolling. I would have banned you, as well, for sealioning.
Oh my. I do feel your pain. My Friendica instance was down at the same time as your Lemmy instance, for 2 days as well, except my issue was a corrupted database engine and corrupted database tables. Kindred spirits.
I'm glad you got it resolved!
BTW, there is a community that you can join from Lemmy, Piefed, or MBIN, that supports my-place.social: https://feddit.online/c/my_place_social
Friendica doesn't use the "!" notation. This is only a notation that a Lemmy, Piefed, or MBIN instance understands.
Friendica instead uses the familiar account notation used by Mastodon, Sharkey, Misskey, etc. It sees the Lemmy community as a user that is also a group.
If you want to follow, for example, the "asklemmy" community at lemmy.world, in the "Add New Contact" box, just enter : [email protected], and then click the "Connect" button, and it will find it, and you can follow it like any other account. Friendica will recognize it as a "Group", as opposed to an individual account, and it should show up in your Groups section.
Let me know if this works.
In smaller instances, you can easily reach the Admin and are much more likely to get a response. Also, the moderation is likely done completely by the Admin and not by a less-invested person who might be enjoying the power and control of being a moderator.
From my experience, about 80% of opened reports are self-resolvable and don't need Admins or moderators and is just someone seeing the world through a biased lens, so everything they don't believe becomes misinformation, and they start opening reports for vengeance. When many of these keep coming, it wears Admins and moderators down, and they are more likely to just ban than respond. This fatigue is not something a small instance Admin experiences. They give more thought to the situation.
I was banned on mastodon . social because someone who disagreed with me perfectly crafted a complaint (they apparently had a lot of experience doing this) that took what I wrote out of context to seem like I was saying something else, and .social banned me instantly and denied the appeal. The claim was total fiction. They didn't care. They had a stack of reports to get through. I had no hope of reaching an Admin.
I never used a large instance again.
Just something, maybe, to think about.
You're absolutely right.
A worse example, pharmacy.amazon.com only uses a 4-digit passcode to log in, and it's a pharmacy site!
