Exactly the reason I got a second hand iPhone coming from Android. All my androids would suddenly get a stroke after three years at best. My old boss would hold a funeral for his 10 year old iPhone which worked great but shattered after a bad drop.

Oh yes, I’m completely aware. I’m a pharmacist with allergies. I always try to talk my patients out of first-gen antihistamines. Bilastine is my go to these days for myself. Zyrtec and generics as OTCs.

Eh one every now and then is fine, I take it for motion sickness when going on long car rides. Half a pill is enough. Then again, taking enough to get nightshade-like poisoning is really not recommended.

It’s generally legal and heavily subsidised. See also animal agriculture.

Lately my cat starts meowing while standing at the shoe dresser. As soon as I go there he tries to climb on my shoulders. I bend over a bit and he climbs on my back and wants me to go around the house. I was enslaved as soon as he entered our home.

I really like how much of a difference backstitching makes. Here's a before picture.

Death metal. Death metal while birding (or more like processing footage). Death metal while cross stitching. Death metal while crocheting. It's a weird outlet that I mostly keep to myself.

Doing some more work on the greenhouse. I have a page and a half left before it's finished. I think it's going to be done at least for Halloween. Frame might take longer.

How has your week been? Anything to show off?

Of course iced coffee and cold brew have a very different taste profile but it can still get hot in the northern hemisphere so here it is:

  • 86g coffee, coarsely ground (32 on my 1zpresso JX). Works great with store-bought beans, in my case Kaufland's medium roast Brazil beans (haven't tried it with specialty coffee, not sure if you're going to get your money's worth that way)
  • 750g filtered water, room temperature or cold
  • patience (I found that 16 hour brew works best but anywhere between 12 and 18 hours is fine)

I use a french press with the filter off. Mine is 1L hence the weird proportions, that's accounting for the coffee grounds volume too. What you get with this recipe is about 500ml of concentrate

  • Add 2/3rds of the water and let bloom for 10 minutes then add the remaining water(500g->250g)
  • Pop it in the fridge for at least 12 hours, 16 is best
  • Filter with a metal filter. I just screw the French press filter, press to just about under the surface.
  • Dilute with ice cold water for a refreshing drink or 92°C if you want it warm. I do a 1:1 ratio but that's up to personal taste.

Great but..

COP28 will be held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from November 30 until December 12.

UAE are one of the biggest producers of CO2 per capita if we exclude small island nations. Their economy is almost solely based on the very thing that causes climate change apart from animal agriculture. The most powerful rich people on the planet flying to one of the hottest, car-centric, artificially created settlements, that was meant to be a fishing village, and can't even take care of its sewage, to discuss how we can keep up with the current unsustainable model so the cash keeps flowing. But it's okay because we're serving mostly vegan food.

This whole shitshow seems to be in line with the petrostates trying to greenwash themselves while scrambling for survival before the whole petroleum industry collapses, or their desert settlements become impossible to live in, whichever comes first.

Might be talking out of my ass here but prog metal artists tend to have high education, usually in music. In fact I saw a bachelor's degree programme for progressive metal in the university of Gothenburg!

I'm new here and I'm not sure what defines simple living but I usually go by foot around town.

Distances are relatively short and it doesn't take long to walk around. The cities in my country are very walkable. When going out of town I prefer the (dilapidated) train network. With my discount card I can ride 400km in around 6 hours for as little as 10$. I'm terrified of driving and I don't want to bother with maintaining a car, not to mention the environmental impacts. If I really need a car when I'm overloaded with groceries, I order a cab but that's rare.
