When I was a teen, I said life was too boring and maybe someone should start a war or something to spice things up.

Fast-forward to:

  • russian invasion of Ukraine

  • Hamas-led Attack on Israeli Civillians and subsequent Israel-led Genocide in Gaza

  • Coup Attempt in South Korea

  • Transition to fascism in the USA

  • Trade wars against the entire world

I DID NOT MEAN THIS 💀

Wait, aren't you in Saudi Arabia right now?

From what I heard, it's worse than PRC, do you feel scared when talking about politics at home?

Like in PRC, the expectation would be prison / forced apology depending on severeity. Isn't dissent like a death sentence in Saudi Arabia? 😬

(I hope you are using Tor btw)

as cell phones became more popular they switched to that for private comms

Corrupt cops are gonna have a signal group chat for off-the-record police brutality and evidence-planting 👀

Top-Day for a daily check-in of what's going on. Scroll like a few pages, or just 1 page if you don't have much time.

Top-6-Hours would be if your employer isn't looking at you all day, and you are able to sneakily browse Lemmy throughout the workday.

Yea... that's why I feel very weird about the front page and it felt "broken" to me. Didn't feel like what a reddit-like front page should look like.

So I just switched to Top-Day, or if you want more "hot" content, Top-6-Hours or Top-12-Hours.

I mean, dude literally commited treason. "Market manipulation" is quite tame in comparison.

Pragmatism =/= Kissing ass

Its like a cop thinking: wow, people really respect me

No they don't lol, the moment you're not looking, they are gonna graffiti ACAB on the police car you're driving.

I've been interested in those old-school radios recently, and most of them are made in China. With the recent tariffs, and because of supply-chain concerns on communications (Exhibit A: Israel attacks on alleged Hezbollah members by rigging pagers and walkie talkies), its a good idea to have local trusted community members with knowledge of radios to build them ourselves.

Unlike smartphones, radios are much easier to build, and requires zero dependency on some corporate/government controlled infrastructure. Maybe we could even have some sort of community code-words for secrecy or airgapped computer hardware integrated in the radio to do encryption.

Like some meshtastic stuff, but even meshtastic devices you buy online could get intercepted and compromised. I'm thinking of like radio enthusiasts should be helping their community build home-made radios, like from scratch, and placed repeaters throughout entire cities on their roof connected to solar panels.

This make it very difficult for governments to shut down communications in event of like protests.

You wouldn't download a shirt!

Unrealistic, surely no politician IRL would do this, right?

Right?

👀

This is literally my parents. They told me to stop criticizing the people in power, even going as far as saying I shouldn't criticize the government of my former country. I don't even have citizenship in my former country anymore, not sure how I could even get in trouble for criticizing is effecively a foreign country to me. (I'm talking about PRC btw).

My mom told me to "just focus on improving your own life and stop worrying about things like you can't control like politics" (as in, both the politics of my former country and the politics of my current country)

Am I in the wrong here? Should I just keep quiet and not say anything so that I don't "get in trouble"?

Not exactly "news" but the recent Samsung Galaxy Ax6 phones (A26, A36, A56) all does not have the MicroSD card slot, only the Galaxy A16 still has it.

I fucking hate this. I love having a mini-TV with me. I can load up a Terabyte of TV shows I love rewatching. You know, maybe you travel or something. Also, good for recording like a lot of videos. Now, new Samsung phones cannot do that anymore.

Sorry for the rant, but honestly, I have to vent: Fuck Samsung. Fuck this capitalist bullshit.

I'm thinking of stop buying Samsung for the future, but honestly, other manufacturers might follow suit, so it ultimately might not matter. I hate this bullshit. I will carry a portable SSD if I have to, I ain't buying your stupid cloud. I'm broke AF and I don't got no money for subscriptions. (Also, they could hold your data hostage and refuse access for random "ToS" violations)

What are your thoughts? What's the future of MicroSD card slots in phones?

(future looks so bleak)

The common MO amongst right wingers is they claim that dissidents like Mahmoud Khalil is a "guest" and therefore they believe that he should not have the right to criticize the government.

What is your view on this?

Edit: Mr. Khalil has a Green Card btw, just to clarify.

Kinda ironic...

🤔

A paper-only journal would defend against the state, but not against people you live with. A digital journal can be encrypted, but an intelligence agency could potentially gain access (like, them reading your anti-government rants that may involve violence... that sort of stuff).

So... how to defend against both threats?

(Also, I just realized, paper journals cannot really be easily backed up...)

Is it for PR reasons?

Is it because he didn't have tattoos?

Or is it because this administration want to make a show out of it?

Surely, they didn't just let him have a court hearing out of the kindness of their hearts. What is the administration's motive of even obeying the court orders to not deport Mr. Khalil (for now, at least)? Since they have been violating other court orders, why are they even following some court orders at all, while ignoring others?

This administration is so puzzling to me... 🧐

As a Chinese American, I kinda have this self-imposed rule to never enter the boundaries of a red state, and even within Blue/Purple states, to avoid ending up in some rural town. Bascially, half of my country is inaccessible to me due to my perceived fear of potentially being a victim of racism.

Am I being paranoid?

Like... I don't know what's the point. Eat heathy, and live a long life? Jesus christ, who has the energy for that?

Just eat whatever. Drink Sodas. Die. Who cares. There's probably gonna be a global recession, or global great depression. Everyone around me is toxic. People in my country is toxic. The government is toxic. Why even live that long? Maybe my next incarnation will be better.

I'm seriously considering a name change, both first and last name. But I thought about it and I don't want to deal with the massive paperwork issues, especially when it comes to citizenship papers and fact that I got citizenship status derived from my mother's naturalization. I'm not sure if a name change would cause troubles.

Should I do it just for spite?
