In the UK the University of Dundee is seemingly approaching meltdown.

I'm still not entirely sure how Australia seemingly wound up with a modified Westminster system that was worse than the original, genuinely pretty impressive.

BLU & ATH have enacted significant economy changes, BLU has seemingly decided to make their economy significantly more harsh, generally rewarding upload rather than seed time more than in the past and especially punishing smaller torrents when it comes to BON.

ATH has moved towards rewarding long seed times significantly more along with both ATH & BLU rewarding full disc seeding quite significantly. ATH Also now requires uploads to be granted access to the invite forums.

Not sure what to think of BLUs changes personally but ATHs look very positive! both have also implemented a buffer system to limit BON spending on upload.

You're kinda proving my point...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

Then people can choose to do so.

Nah, having a reasonably active community on another instance is also a bulwark against mods going rogue.

Trying to ask where the back up communities are for the ones you posted is not exactly relevant, if they did have secondary backup communities I'd be in favour of them staying indepdnent and active but we're talking about ones which do currently have communities across different instances.

And yes people will reorganise but that takes a degree of time even if only a few days, I see no reason to go around pressuring for "duplicates" to be folded into a single large community when they don't exactly impact the function of the subject matter and allow for a very quick migration should something go wrong.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

And? This is the entire point of federated networks, if for example the .org instance imploded for whatever reason then the community could easily regroup and hit the ground running on the .UK instance, pushing for everything to be centralised in large communities undermines the benefits of federation.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

YDI, aggressively trying to stifle a community like that leaves a very very poor impression IMO, people have their reasons for choosing certain instances and that should be respected.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 3 weeks ago

Just wanted to say ty for coming on here to respond! Many don't do that, seem like a decent enough mod IMO & I can't say I disagree with your actions.

Mass sending out emails to old account holders, even those who had been banned. Pretty odd behaviour and frankly seems like they've scared away half their user base via bad management and are now freaking as the tracker is dead.

Also indicates they're storing email address very long term, which is somewhat questionable to say the least.

Since JPTV announced it was shutting down on the 15th of next month (Source: JPTV Rizon IRC) PTP & BTN have launched an effort to try and get together as much JPTV exclusive content as possible including the quite large array of subtitles created by the JPTV userbase.

This should mean that TV series & films located on JPTV aren't lost.
