If you’re looking to improve the guide I’d suggest not putting the week number in the same column as the list of app targets. Like either push them all the way to the left margin or rightward toward the arrow column

Yeah agreed, might even remove the week title as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks @xpey@piefed.social ! It's comments like these that make it all worth it. So hard to know how many people are actually following these guides and benefiting from them. Having done the switch myself through this process, I feel so much better using tools from genuine businesses.

https://pixelunion.eu/ is a fantastic option and they recently donated 20% of their profits to humanitarian aid

I get your point. I'll look at adding the disclaimer to the category list as well to help educate without needing to click into the tool.

Spotify is an alternative, but it doesn't come recommended (in the guide or the website) and has a huge disclaimer to their name. https://purchasewithpurpose.io/software/D5JUoM1dZysf7JJgTAWXy/

The reality is that most people know about Spotify, so it's better to educate people as to why they aren't a good option rather than not mention them at all.

There usually is a long list of feedback points that I try to incorporate after each post. I have made several changes, but those were limited to the website. I get you on the guide not being updated, and sorry for that. I'll make sure update it before sharing it again so it can also keep improving.

Most of this isn't FOSS, but there is excellent FOSS tools out there. I would say most of these are like-for-like offerings in terms of the current mainstream options.

Mentioned on the website. Just not on the guide as it is more targeted to the tech-savvy. https://purchasewithpurpose.io/category/password-manager/

P.s. recently came across https://psono.com/ which looks to also be an excellent self-hosted option.

I guess so... The social media part wasn't meant to be a main focus, as it often depends on moving not yourself but the people around you. I do intend to revisit it, though.

I created these guides as I was dispondent in the direction the world is going and feeling helpless. Besides the political movements, I feel the next best thing is to promote businesses that don't prioritise profits over people.

The starting point is moving away from big tech, but the intention of the movement is to extend to other products and industries.

I have subsequently created a website after the popularity of these infographic guides with far more detail:

https://purchasewithpurpose.io/

Hope this helps you, friends or family, make the switch!

Absolutely, please go for it. Just include the links so people can find the resources easily - thanks!

And your thoughts on Qobuz?

Yeah sorry the Vivaldi was a mistake. You are correct that it is meant to be Non-EU ownership. The website covers this better and is correct

I shared a version of this guide earlier this year, but felt a website was needed to unpack the different options fully. So after an unreasonable number of hours, I put together the necessary data and website.

I hope this is digestible enough for the average person to help those looking to take that first step, or for people who are equally passionate and want to get their friends or family involved.

Details:

Every time I post these guides, there is always feedback on things that can improve, or I got wrong. Please do share, as it is the best way for these to evolve!

This is the first version, so I expect there to be a few mistakes. Please flag and provide feedback if you notice any improvements.

Discovered some fantastic options through this research. Hopefully this guide can help you!
