I can believe that. It seems like "they" heavily sugar coat the information provided to the survivors. When Carol asked how many she killed, pirate lady said "worldwide, it was a few", but it was much, much more than a few. So I could see them minimizing information about the darkest aspects of humanity. Plus if they truly don't harm, those things mentioned shouldn't have much of an effect anyway.
