I think if there was a BlueSky-esque version of Lemmy that had a super simple signup - but was also federated - it would get people on board faster.

Isn't that just linking a specific instance? You can link them directly to the community or the signup page, it's just as simple as Bluesky at that point, don't even tell them that other instances exist, don't even say the name "Lemmy"

Block lemmy.ml if you don't like it

(Actually, is lemmy.world on too old of a version to have instance blocking? They're so far behind on updates)

on fediverse observer, you need to switch to daily stats not monthly stats, right now it says 53,225 MAU for March 13th as the latest datapoint

https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/dailystats

fedidb is probably doing something similar, just showing the average for the whole month, instead of the current day

Give us another big StarCraft 2 tournament at Blizzcon!

This is cool too, but I would like to offer an idea I've seen other communities do which is a specific day of the week for posting pictures. Like Pictures Tuesday or something.

Yeah we don't need more posts, we need more comments, and maybe more voters too

I'll start with this: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2318

Remotely open post, similar to remote follow

An easy way to open the current post in your home instance.

This would be in addition to the text

"You must log in or register to comment."

It would open the current post in your home instance. Similar to how remote follow opens the community in your home instance.

New users on Lemmy often click links and end up on a page that looks almost identical except the address bar says a different domain name, and they wonder why they aren't logged in anymore. I think this would be a pretty easy feature to implement.

Make sure to put thumbs up reactions so the devs know to prioritize them.

Android 16 is adding support for pinned notifications that show live info from apps.

TL;DR

  • Android 16 introduces Live Updates, a new class of notifications for ongoing activities.
  • Live Updates are prominently displayed on the lock screen as well as on the status bar.
  • These notifications are intended for rideshare pickups, food delivery alerts, navigation, and other use cases.

If this doesn’t sound like anything new to you, I don’t blame you. After all, rideshare apps like Uber have already been showing notifications like this for years now. Uber had to do a lot of custom stuff to make its notifications look like that on Android, though. Google has basically created a standardized version of what Uber’s been doing. With the new progress-centric notifications in Android 16, any app can create notifications like Uber.

The classic MMORPG RuneScape has been successfully ported to the Sega Dreamcast by the homebrew development team LobotomyDC, marking another milestone for the retro console’s vibrant community.

Doesn't seem like it uses ActivityPub, still interesting, and open source

In Nextcloud, user’s Federated Cloud ID works similar to an email address or a Mastodon handle, allowing them to exchange data across servers: share files and and collaborate on documents, communicate in group chats and make audio and video calls.

Federated tools available in Nextcloud:

  • Federated file sharing
    • Share documents and media to users in other Nextcloud Hub instances for viewing, editing and collaboration.
  • Federated chatting
    • Create group chats with users from different servers and use many essential chat tools.
  • Federated calls
    • Make audio and video calls with Nextcloud Talk among users from different servers.
