Unpopular opinion: IDK why people want perfect interop so much, I have a Mastodon account and a Lemmy account, big deal. We've got bigger fish to fry than this. The formats are different enough that you're better off having separate accounts for microblogging and threadiverse.

Interop for similar platforms is a great feature, but for dissimilar platforms I don't think it's actually necessary just a novelty. Also I think people try to push this on new users as some big, useful, important feature, but I think it only confuses the new users.

Also I noticed most of the time when people complain about ActivityPub interop issues, it almost always ends up being Mastodon's fault lol. Probably because they were early to the party and didn't have to worry about interop and standards much back then. At least I hope it isn't malicious lol.

Watch Digital Foundry, very very few AAA PS5 games can do 4k AND 60fps (which is what I assume you mean by "high framerates", although 60 isn't really that high it's just mid). Probably none of those are doing ray tracing at the same time. Most PS5 games have upscaling enabled at all times because they're rendering at much lower internal resolutions. PS5 Pro is not even twice as powerful, it's not going to be capable of pushing 4x as many pixels per second. There's a reason why they're still talking about their upscaling algorithms.

"Advanced ray tracing" is not a technical term that exists it's just marketing speak. And obviously they couldn't say path tracing because they won't be doing much of that like a 4070 or 4080 can do.

Here Digital Foundry is comparing the PS5Pro to the RTX 3070 Ti, which is much weaker than the 4070 https://youtu.be/W2wOn8zS8dU?t=3577 (the 4070 has more VRAM than the 3070 Ti that they mention there)

The 4070 is similar to the 3080, which is a pretty decent lead over the 3070 Ti. The 4080 is leagues above them all.

It won't come close to a 4080 so that isn't a sensible comparison. I think it's estimated to be slower than the regular 4070.

IDK why you mention 4k and max settings and high frame rates, PS5 Pro won't do these things. It's not even twice as fast as the regular PS5 which in many games drops below 1080p 60fps medium settings.

This week's dev update comes directly from the mind behind our eerie and atmospheric audio director, Jonathan van den Wijngaarden, and a special note & video from The Fat Man - original composer of iconic 90s The 7th Guest PC Classic.

'Working on the 7th Guest VR has been an exciting experience. When the team at Vertigo approached me first, I felt both excited and slightly intimidated! The original game is such a legendary title and still holds a very dedicated fanbase even today. From the very first moment I’ve felt doing right to both the iconic work done by George (Sanger) and to the fans would be my very first goal.

It quickly became clear that we’d be retelling the original story while adapting it for modern audiences and not in the least; the new platform. Music and sound should also follow this direction, and to me it felt doing a literal remake of the soundtrack would not do justice to this approach (also; it didn’t feel right to ‘redo’ the work done by George for the original). Instead I wanted to capture the essence and feel of the original music and make this the center of this new score.

That said, George’s work obviously was a huge source of inspiration and many of the original themes and motifs return. I made a selection of the original themes that to me felt most memorable and used those as a starting point for writing the new material. All music is adaptive in nature, which allows us to transition to a different variation once you solve a room.

The original had a very interesting blend of styles and instruments and I really wanted to bring this back in order to establish a unique sound. We have an incredible group of musicians lending their talents to this score; Lara Ausensi on vocals, Frank Klepacki on drums, Hannes Frischat on cello, Nathan Madsen on saxophone and even The Fatman himself on guitar and vocals! '

George, what can you tell us, as the original composer of The 7th Guest, what was your reaction when you heard that Vertigo Games was planning a VR remake of this iconic game?

'"About time!" It's a perfect fit. The original game introduced a million or two players to the world of content-rich games, of CD-ROM's, of General MIDI music, of digitally recorded sound and music and some cutting edge FMV. The game's atmosphere of exploration, immersion, and puzzle solving was just right for introducing new technology, and I can see it onboarding a lot of folks into VR in the same fun, cool, SCARY way.'

'Thanks George! We also made sure the house feels alive in terms of sound design and weird noises. There are quite some chilling ambiances throughout that are very surreal in nature at times. Everything works towards something that has the player on edge, not knowing what to expect next - to me this is what made the original game so impactful. Last but not least, seeing the volumetric video come to life with music, sound design and voices was a very cool experience. A lot of effort went into making this all work, hats off to the tech team for solving that puzzle!'

Major Changes

  • Augmented Enemies thanks to Silverstrings:
    • For increased challenge, rare enemies with special abilities. See the Wiki for more details
    • (These screenshots were taken using the help of Serious Sam mode, and without helmets so you can see them better. The tough augs can't get helmets because they don't need them.)

  • Walton Ware mode: a game mode focused on quickly doing bingos and New Game+

    • Each round can be beaten in around 10 minutes or even less!
    • In order to make Walton Ware possible, we added these new options which it enables by default (you can also enable these individually on the Advanced page):
      • Random starting map
      • Bingo win at 1 line
      • Bingo Scale of 0% so all bingo goals are reduced to their lowest amount
      • Bingo Duration of 1 mission so it only selects events that can be done right away
      • 5 free spaces on the bingo board
    • We're also now over 200 bingo events!
    • This is what a Walton Ware bingo board looks like

  • New Speedrun mode: speedrun with fewer resets while still being able to enjoy higher difficulties.

    • Reduces randomization range for skill costs and strengths
    • Uses the same doors rules as Normal difficulty
    • Some tweaks to scoring to accommodate this such as doors rules having a bigger impact on your score
  • Crowd Control online and simulated together for the average streamer that doesn't have many viewers

  • Fixes to various mirrored maps, so make sure to tell the installer to download the new mirrored maps!

  • Steam Deck fix for health display after waking up from sleep.

  • Autofill passwords even in Zero Rando mode, great for Steam Deck players!

  • We now prevent using lockpicks/multitools on doors/keypads you have the key/code for, great for people who don't read!

  • New website Mods4Ever.com

Minor Changes

  • Installer improvements, especially for Linux and Steam Deck
  • Enemy factions: added MiBs for MJ12, and Secret Service for Police
  • Fixed items being lost in M05 jail
  • Fixed Anna's dialog in M05 UNATCO
  • Fixed possible memory leaks
  • Slightly reduced plasma ammo
