Games you've played before are definitely easier to watch and appreciate. But sometimes my favorite run at a GDQ is something I wasn't aware of before, and the run just pops off with good skill and commentary.

Super Meat Boy is always an impressive watch. Castlevania games, F-Zero, Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong.

Also if you wanna laugh, watch the "Awful Games Done Quick" block, starting with Superman 64 and ending with Kevin Costner's Waterworld

Yeah, I actually think Sonic Rush is his best work

The whole soundtrack for this game is amazing

Not tracked on Steam but Deus Ex (Randomizer mod), The 7th Guest (speedruns), and a few hundred hours in Overwatch

I've been working in Ruby on Rails lately (unfortunately) and yeah it's extremely bad at this. There's so much hidden implicit behavior everywhere.

It's been declined https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4225

Imagine the same news article is posted in /c/cars and /c/fuckcars. It is not desired nor expected to have all comments combined.

Making it a checkbox is an interesting idea though, but could still be confusing reading the comments with the different contexts.

Soundlab20 (track 27) is great

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah I could see this being a big factor. Advertising money can also mean directly paying people to use it, and hoping some of their followers might come along.

Starting off with 2 mixes of the same song in a row is a weird choice lol

what a load of snake-oil bullshit lol

Download DXRandoInstaller.exe in the Assets section at the bottom of the GitHub page (Linux version also available, as well as the Vanilla Fixer tool). It is safe to update in the middle of a playthrough.

Use vanilla (optionally with Lay D Denton) to get all of the Randomizer's features, best QoL improvements, and the most polished experience. Our installer has an option to install Lay D Denton for you automatically.

Here's a trailer for WaltonWare mode. WaltonWare mode is focused on quick wins by completing a single bingo line, and increasing difficulty after every win. The bingo goals are all scaled to their minimum settings and you start in a random area. All bingo goals will be completable within just a few maps!

Here's a trailer for our new Mirrored Maps feature in v2.5. Play through the game with a random mix of mirrored maps, which will keep you on your toes even more than the randomizer has before!

If you don't know what Deus Ex Randomizer is, then here's our old trailer which shows a breakdown of how it works:

Major Changes

  • Fixed a bug that was causing skill/aug strengths to not be consistent.
    • (Loading older saves will give you different skill/aug strengths from before, but otherwise playable.)
  • New WaltonWare starting locations, previously we only had 13, now we have 40 of them!
  • Added 14 more bingo goals.
  • Vandenberg Silo improvements:
    • Spawn Howard Strong immediately (assuming Helios was born and you downloaded the UC schematics).
      • This allows you to scout for the launch control computer and Howard at the same time.
      • If you kill Howard before redirecting the missile, the infolink dialog will be slightly rearranged to be more appropriate.
    • Fixed Howard and Jock both being able to spawn in the Launch Command room
  • Fixed some songs that can get stuck when using Randomized Music.
    • (This will reset your music config so you may need to re-enable Unreal or UT music in the Rando menu.)
  • Some fixes for Zero Rando mode, including a fix for the 50% mirrored maps option in Zero Rando mode.
  • Removed more balance changes from Zero Rando mode, mostly small map specific tweaks.
  • Nerfed power recirculator aug when you have it in automatic mode.
  • Fixed advanced settings when playing an alternate game mode (such as tweaking the settings for WaltonWare mode).
  • Option for Deus_nsf's tweaked D3D10 shaders, look in the Advanced settings in our Installer program.
  • Computer skill Advanced and Master base costs reverted back to the vanilla.
    • Level 1 is the only one that's OP, we rarely saw players get upgrades past that.
    • Previously the base costs were: 1575 for Trained, 3150 for Advanced, and 5250 for Master
    • Now the base costs are: 1575 for Trained, 2250 for Advanced, and 3750 for Master
  • Nerfed lower levels of speed aug back to vanilla. Max level is still a little weaker than vanilla.
    • We were a little worried about speedruns and races, but as Nitram has shown, speedrunners can adapt.
  • Enabled randomized bot weapons by default.
  • OpenAugTree by WCCC (at the bottom of the Keyboard/Mouse settings, bind it to a key).
    • This is great for playing on Steam Deck or on a controller.
  • Allow animals to be knocked unconscious.

The Cutscenes are out of order in the Game. Here is the Cutscenes in order as told in the book, The 7th Guest: A Novel by Matthew J. Costello. Cropped the black borders with only a small loss of quality.

This is the fastest time since the release of v2.6 (which had a bunch of additions and changes that slowed down the speedrun for everyone) so we're calling this the new world record speedrun in this post-v2.6 era. This was played on v2.6.3.6 Alpha.

Nitram came on to the scene very quickly getting sub-2 hour runs with a totally different strategy than we've been doing. Previously we were focusing on running past everything as quickly as possible and hacking all computers in our path. But Nitram starts the game with lots of looting, more careful combat with less deaths, and typically not getting the Computer skill until the end of the game or not at all! In this run he got Computer skill right at the very end (1:38:57 in the video) because of Silo. I guess since he found the computer right away he didn't have time to find the datacube before finding the computer.

It is yet to be seen if the minimal, run past everything approach can beat this time in v2.6+, we will have to wait and see if other runners attempt it or follow this strategy. But it is exciting to have such a shakeup in the meta, and it seems the Randomizer is currently balanced enough to allow these completely different strategies to be viable even for the speedrun.

The previous world record was 1:28:02 by Ramisme in v2.5.4, about 5 months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN7GkIGILwk

(And yes, we have our own version of LiveSplit built right into the game's HUD. It autosplits and removes load times.)

Trilobyte:

Trilobyte mourns the passing of Robert Stein III who left this world on January 17 of this year.

Rob was an integral part of the innovative creation of The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour. We were incredibly lucky that he came into our lives, bringing his great talent with him. He will always be respected and admired by anyone who had the good fortune of having known and worked with him.

Jonathan Sposato:

rest in peace brother. robert stein III was the first ever art director at banana republic back when their catalogs were hand drawn by him in a marin county studio. he was also the co-creator of the epic hit game “7th guest” and it’s even bigger followup “11th Hour.” i first met him when i was a young teen making computer games, where he was my slightly older colleague at ‘Virgin Mastertronic’, an offshoot of richard branson’s ‘Virgin Records.' he taught me so much about ‘suggesting detail where there isn’t any.’ years later after college when i started my first games company, i hired rob to be our senior art director, where he routinely regaled us with stories about his run-in’s with special effects greats phil tippett or ray harryhausen. he once lived amongst one of the most untouched pre-industrial humans, the trobriand islanders, during a once every 75 year solar eclipse because he simply wanted to experience what they would experience. he traded drawings for food and lived among them for months. it was said that the founders of banana republic mel and patricia ziegler hired him on the spot, sans portfolio, because he was the very vision of the wanderlust adventurer they sought to sell the idea of. the son of a decorated fighter ace and cold war spy robert k. stein, rob was born for adventure. when i had occasion to go to africa, he once warned; “if your flight has to divert to uganda, do not get off. my dad and i were once held at gunpoint by idi amin’s henchmen in entebbe…”

thru out the years, rob and i ended up working together on and off in parallel careers at microsoft where he designed almost all the iconography for Windows Vista, while i putzed around in the consumer division and xbox. a few years later i tried to recruit him to be a part of my startup, he refused. after selling that one i gave him another shot and he refused again. when i visited him in hospice he laughed; “goddamn it sposato you should have done a better job talking me into those!” to which i replied; “robert you’ve lived 3 lives in the span of my one. no regrets man. no regrets.” and he truly had none.

after a brave fight, rob succumbed to cancer on Jan 17th of this year. he is survived by his beautiful, delightful, and very funny wife Summie Aoki-Stein, an accomplished flight attendant speaking multiple languages who has many great stories of her own. i am grateful my friend was in great care by such a loving partner. his ashes are with the beach and sea in his favorite spot on earth; kailua beach in oahu, hawaii. you can visit rob virtually thru his gorgeous illustrations at https://www.instagram.com/robertsteiniii

you will be missed robert...
