Over here in Florida, I shock people when I show them my actual bill from the power company is exactly the minimum service fee every month. I don’t “get” paid for my excess but I don’t have to pay over night so I’m sure as hell happy for that arrangement.

I’ve also blown some people’s minds by framing it as equity building too. You pay a mortgage and own your house eventually. Why not roll solar into that and get equity into your energy as well instead of renting it from the power company?

It’s crazy how much less offensive it looks. I’m shook.

A band is 3-5 ish people just vibing and making it up together. When you get into a studio, now you have at least one engineer in the group. If a record label is involved, you have their representative as well as all their money. So it’s a lot of chefs in the kitchen when it comes to making an actual recording.

The biggest influence outside of the band though is usually the engineer. As an outsider with a vested interest in making the song as good as it can be, they often have really great insight into changes that can make the song even better.

Finally, when you’re playing live even with a click track in your ear, you’re going to want to rush. And that’s ok, it’s fun to play fast. You may not even notice it. And then you go into the booth to record and you end up laying out what you had in your head from the start.

I never really clicked with Thrice as a whole for some reason, but The Alchemy Index albums are just incredible to me. They nailed the aesthetics and motifs for each of the elements, the songs are good and catchy, and are so vastly varied. It’s probably my favorite concept album(s).

The rear spoiler thing on my hatchback trunk is starting to peel and I thought it would be easy to remove and repaint myself. But I was surprised to learn it’s just glued on. But it’s just a trim piece of plastic with a brake light and a fluid nozzle in it. Not a body panel per se.

Any amount of bandwidth/data cap saved across 8 billion people is appreciable. Full stop, that’s all I’m saying. If you don’t wanna acknowledge that point there’s really nothing else for us to say here.

I’m not defending webp over png. All of my sites serve both depending on what the browser indicates it supports. It’s zero effort.

Implying that because people with unmetered internet are live-streaming, people on data caps don’t matter is asinine.

I’m not even trying to change your mind on webp I don’t give a shit. But ingesting images on your platform and serving them efficiently is part of writing lean code and you’re just arguing for arguments sake.

Nobody is saying you need to use webp locally. But when you’re talking about the entire fucking world on the internet sharing images, even minuscule savings scales to something appreciative.

Another aspect to consider is, not everyone is privileged with unmetered internet access. Shoving bloated media into peoples’ faces is actively costing real people real money. If you’re operating even a modestly popular site, I feel like you have a moral obligation to ensure it’s as inexpensive to browse as possible.

Not an expert in their discography but just pulled their page up. I find a very close trend between a band shifting towards weird title casing or using symbols to replace the letter O, and their music getting shitty and corporate.

That’s incorrect.
