Do you know how hard it was for me to buy a Prius? First we looked at dealerships, none of which had any to test drive so they kept stealing us toward their SUVs and Trucks. Then we went to the Chicago auto show where we could look at whatever the fuck we wanted and confirmed we would in fact like a Prius. Then we started calling up dealerships to ask if they had a Prius to test drive until we finally had a "lucky winner". We drove out to the dealership, test drove the car, argued with them about what we actually wanted, and then finally signed papers and gave a down payment on a car. The. We waited 6 months for delivery and a recall lift. In total it took us 9 months to get our small little Prius. Other small cars were in a similar situation. However, if you waltzed into any dealership and asked for a giant truck, you could buy one that day with no interest! I know so because my father in law did just that the same year we got our Prius. Quite sad really.

When I recently went off my medication, I would have random days where I was incredibly depressed as my body was trying to return to normal. The first day we moved into our house I started crying because I missed my dog who was staying with my parents temporarily. Without saying anything, my husband ran to the store and got me a pint of Jenny's darkest Chocolate ice cream. And we ate the whole pint together. No judgement, just love.

The article says this also applies to auto parts. Many of which are made outside the US. This means that even if you buy a car from a US auto maker, tariffs will apply. This also means if you already bought a foreign car, that your insurance will likely increase. This helps no one but Elon who I hate to admit, made the smart move of prioritizing US manufacturing for Tesla. Something I think more companies in the US should do, but here we are.

My husband works at an architecture firm. They exclusively use #2 in 3 different colors. My husband has gotten in the habit of putting a few in his pocket during the day while he works and emptying his pockets when he gets home. We have WAY TOO MANY PENS!!!! I've been bagging them up and giving them away!! They are nice pens tho... very good for drafting/drawing/etc. I just don't need 300 of them. Beware that the blue ones tend to explode the most.

You could make the same argument about any pet. There are behaviors that need to be controlled for any pet you decide to keep in your house. If you're brave enough to adopt a young one, you'll almost definitely experience those things as you train them. A well trained pet won't exhibit those behaviors, but it takes hard work to get there.

I second the freezer meals! What I like to do is make things that I can make a very large batch of to make food prep easier when I want a quick healthy meal. My favorites to make are chicken pot pie, pesto, kale pesto, pulled pork (not healthy), and falafel. All of these things take lots of time and or ingredients. So when you make them, you make a big massive batch and then divide them into meal portions for freezing. This way all I have to do is grab 1 portion of say pot pie, thaw it out in hot water or in the fridge the day before, pop it in the oven with some pie crust or crescent rolls on top for 25 min and BAM, I'm eating stuff from my garden in the middle of winter with little to no effort!

About a year ago, I was unable to drink alcohol for medical reasons. So I dove into some recipes for non-alcoholic cocktails, and I wasn't disappointed. There are loads of excellent non-alcoholic recipes that I enjoy just as much as their alcoholic counterparts.

This recipe is from the book Good Drinks:

  • 1oz basil matcha syrup
  • 1oz heavy cream or full-fat coconut milk
  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 3 oz soda water
  • matcha for garnish

Shake syrup, cream, and juice with ice and strain into a Collins glass over ice. Add soda water carefully and garnish by sprinkling matcha powder on top.

Enjoy your Independence Day weekend!

Lei Lani Volcano from my favorite tiki book Smuggler's Cove! What are your favorite cocktail books?

Recipe:

  • 3oz Bundaberg guava soda
  • 1 1/2oz pineapple juice
  • 3/4oz lime juice
  • 1oz coconut cream
  • 1 1/2oz blended aged rum

Add soda to a collins glass. Then add remaining ingredients to a cocktail shaker and fill with cracked or cubed ice. Shake and double strain into the glass. Gently add cracked or cubed ice to the glass and garnish.

This one turned out just excellent! Very refreshing and perfect for summer! I even made one with Gin for my mom and that one turned out great too!

Recipe:

  • 2 oz. Bourbon
  • 3/4 oz. Maple Syrup
  • 3/4 oz. Lemon Juice
  • 4 Blackberries
  • 6-8 Mint leaves
  • 2 blackberries and a mint sprig for garnish

Add syrup, lemon juice, blackberries, and mint leaves to a shaker tin and muddle until the blackberries have been very juiced. Add the bourbon and shake with ice. Double strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube and garnish with mint sprig and blackberries.-
